I would say, he was at the training facility with his Colombian bandits and when the bombs started to fall he fled back home to Colombia.

Whatever party or movement he was in, he was sure to do something that either threatened them with a split or caused some damage and he was eventually expelled. And they always suspected that he did it intentionally working for someone or receiving money from someone. He was expelled from the "Communist Party", he was expelled from the "Fair Russia", he was eventually thrown out of the "Left Front", and even the very squeamish Navalny and his team recluse Ponomarev and removed from any involvement in their protest organization.In 2014, when the process of removing Ponomarev in one party and one organization was launched, as well as cases of embezzlement were initiated, he fled to Ukraine.

Voronenkov also escaped, lived in Kiev for some time, promised to appear in court against Russia, but was shot when he went to a meeting with Ponomarev. Kiev blamed Russia for the murder, but the trail of the Ukrainian special services stuck out more in it.
