This is the day known as Mōdraniht in Old English, and “Mother’s Night” in modern. It is one of my favorite days of the year. Today we honor and offer thanks to our female ancestors, those who are believed to watch over our families and help us in times of need. These figures are known in Norse mythology as The Disir. Many people chose to give their direct maternal line ancestors high honors on this night.”

On December 21st we will experience the turning of the wheel at the time of the Solstice. We have all heard of the 12 days of Christmas. Before there was Christmas there was the earth celebration of Yule. It begins on the winter solstice and continues for twelve days ending on January 1, 2023.
Yule or Jol was a major event in early cultures, including Germanic and Scandinavian (although some dispute this) for very important, fundamental reasons. In our modern, industrialised societies, we’ve lost touch with these natural and celestial markers.

Etymology of Solstice:
The English word Solstice comes from the Old French word of the same spelling. Originally, it came from Latin as a combination of sol, which means sun, and sistere, which means “to come to a stop.” It is related to the Latin word solstitium, which means “point at which the sun seems to stand still.”
Now, employ your intuition and what you know about word etymology. Sol = Sun, right?
Does “Sol” not also equal “Soul”?
Understand with your Heart.
Soul = Sol = Sun = Son
We are, after all made in God’s image and God IS Light.
You’re a star.
(And I don’t mean that in a gold-star-sticker-on-your-paper kind of way. 😉)
