History of the Emil Czeczko case
In March 2022 the Polish soldier Emil Czeczko who defected to Belarus during the height of the border migrant crisis in 2021 (and before started in 2015) year was found dead in his apartment.
The 22-year-old had been a member of Poland’s 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division when he abandoned his post and defected. He was accused by the Polish authorities of desertion.
