Scientists have said that Epstein Barr Virus is likely the cause of Lupus.

“We think it applies to 100% of lupus cases,” said Prof William Robinson, a professor of immunology and rheumatology at Stanford University and the study’s senior author. “I think it really sets the stage for a new generation of therapies that could fundamentally treat and thereby provide benefit to lupus patients.”

These findings would add impetus to clinical trials for an EBV vaccine, which are already under way. There are also several teams exploring repurposing cancer treatments designed to wipe out B cells for severe cases of lupus.

Ukraine's energy and justice ministers have resigned in the wake of a major investigation into corruption in the country's energy sector.

On Monday anti-corruption bodies accused several people of orchestrating a embezzlement scheme in the energy sector worth about $100m (£76m), including at the national nuclear operator Enerhoatom.

The allegation is that Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and other key ministers and officials received payments from contractors building fortifications against Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

Among those alleged to be involved are former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov and Timur Mindich - a businessman and a co-owner of Zelensky's former TV studio Kvartal95. He has since reportedly fled the country.

Police and crime commissioner roles will be abolished, the policing minister has announced.

The 41 elected officials in England and Wales will continue until the end of the current term in 2028.

Their powers will be transferred to mayors "wherever possible", and council leaders will lead new policing and crime boards.

At least £100 million will be saved by the end of this parliament in 2029 through scrapping the roles - enough to fund about an extra 320 police constables a year, policing minister Sarah Jones said.
