Israel has used widely banned cluster munitions in Lebanon, photos of remnants suggest.

Cluster munitions are container bombs which release many smaller submunitions, small “bomblets”, over a wide area the size of several football fields. The use of cluster munitions is widely banned as up to 40% of submunitions do not explode upon impact, posing a danger to civilians who might later stumble upon them and be killed when they explode.

The Israeli military neither confirmed nor denied its use of cluster munitions but said it “uses only lawful weapons, in accordance with international law and while mitigating harm to civilians”.

With the passing of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, AG Pam Bondi now says there is “new information, additional information” on Epstein, directly contradicting DOJ’s claim that no further investigation was needed...

Goalposts continue to move and all looking very suspect.

The ringleader of a Roma Gypsy grooming gang was offered £1,500 by the Home Office to be deported while he was in prison awaiting trial for 10 rapes.

Mircea Marian Cumpanasoiu, 38, led a network which raped, drugged and exploited vulnerable local women in Dundee.

In summer 2024, while in custody at HMP Perth awaiting trial for serial sex offences, officials handed him a "voluntary return" form under a government scheme paying foreign nationals to leave Britain.

The department later decided not to remove him because of the upcoming court proceedings.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has said she is willing to consider "a big increase" in payments to failed asylum seekers to persuade them to leave the UK voluntarily.

She said this was often "better value for money for the taxpayer" than the cost of people remaining in the country.

Police Scotland with support from North Wales colleagues, have now charged three people over funeral plan fraud.

Last May, Police Scotland launched a criminal probe named Operation Koine into A Milne Funeral Directors following allegations of missing ashes, families given wrong remains and financial misconduct.

Officers from the team, with support from colleagues in North Wales, executed search warrants at an address in the Flint area of Wales yesterday and a 58-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were rearrested.

All three have now been charged in connection with the investigation and will be reported to the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service in due course.

Convicted rapist and former Met police constable David Carrick has received an additional life sentence.

The 50-year-old was found guilty on Wednesday of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s when he was 14 and raping a former partner 20 years later.

He had already been serving 36 life sentences with a minimum of 32 years after admitting 71 offences of sexual violence committed over a 17-year period.

In a victim impact statement, the woman abused as a child told the court the trauma had "followed me into adulthood".

A statement from the woman abused as a child said: "I don't believe David has any remorse... I don't think I will ever be able to trust anyone completely.

"The effects of these offences are not something I can simply move on from."

The new sentence means Carrick, previously eligible for parole in 2054, must now wait until 2055.

A Police Scotland officer has told a court he was "terrified" when he allegedly found himself being chased by a man wielding a chainsaw.

Liridon Kastrati, 32, is accused of ramming a car into a marked police vehicle and then brandishing a chainsaw at officers in Paisley, Renfrewshire, on 6 May 2024.

It is alleged he stole a black Volkswagen car from the town's George Street and drove it "at excessive speed", before mounting the pavement and colliding with a police car containing two officers.

Kastrati is then accused of pulling a chainsaw out of a bag before reportedly running at officers while shouting and swearing.

Kastrati is on trial and denies attempted murder, as well as breach of the peace and motoring offences.

SNP Ministers have handed more than £1.3million in taxpayers' cash to campaigners pushing for an "extreme" new abortion law in Scotland.

Feminist charity Engender is campaigning to scrap the 1967 Abortion Act, removing the 24-week limit for a legal abortion in Scotland and replacing it with a new "rights-based framework".

Alongside the removing the 24-week limit, the 165-page review – which was commissioned by Humza Yousaf when he was first minister – also said there was no need for any ban on sex-selective abortion in Scotland, branding it "unnecessary" and "potentially harmful"

Professor Anna Glasier, chair of the panel, said it would require "intrusive and inappropriate questioning" of those seeking an abortion. She also raised concerns that such a move would risk "racial profiling" women from particular communities where sex-selective abortion is thought to take place.
