Police Scotland with support from North Wales colleagues, have now charged three people over funeral plan fraud.

Last May, Police Scotland launched a criminal probe named Operation Koine into A Milne Funeral Directors following allegations of missing ashes, families given wrong remains and ­financial misconduct.

Officers from the team, with support from colleagues in North Wales, executed search warrants at an address in the Flint area of Wales yesterday and a 58-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were rearrested.

All three have now been charged in connection with the investigation and will be reported to the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service in due course.

Convicted rapist and former Met police constable David Carrick has received an additional life sentence.

The 50-year-old was found guilty on Wednesday of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s when he was 14 and raping a former partner 20 years later.

He had already been serving 36 life sentences with a minimum of 32 years after admitting 71 offences of sexual violence committed over a 17-year period.

In a victim impact statement, the woman abused as a child told the court the trauma had "followed me into adulthood".

A statement from the woman abused as a child said: "I don't believe David has any remorse... I don't think I will ever be able to trust anyone completely.

"The effects of these offences are not something I can simply move on from."

The new sentence means Carrick, previously eligible for parole in 2054, must now wait until 2055.

A Police Scotland officer has told a court he was "terrified" when he allegedly found himself being chased by a man wielding a chainsaw.

Liridon Kastrati, 32, is accused of ramming a car into a marked police vehicle and then brandishing a chainsaw at officers in Paisley, Renfrewshire, on 6 May 2024.

It is alleged he stole a black Volkswagen car from the town's George Street and drove it "at excessive speed", before mounting the pavement and colliding with a police car containing two officers.

Kastrati is then accused of pulling a chainsaw out of a bag before reportedly running at officers while shouting and swearing.

Kastrati is on trial and denies attempted murder, as well as breach of the peace and motoring offences.

SNP Ministers have handed more than £1.3million in taxpayers' cash to campaigners pushing for an "extreme" new abortion law in Scotland.

Feminist charity Engender is campaigning to scrap the 1967 Abortion Act, removing the 24-week limit for a legal abortion in Scotland and replacing it with a new "rights-based framework".

A teacher who had her neck broken by her landscape gardener lover after she threatened to leave him believed she was 'going to die', a jury has heard.

Trudi Burgess, 57, was left paralysed from the neck down after Robert Easom flew into an 'uncontrollable' rage and launched his 'vicious' attack.

Easom, 56, pinned her face down on the bed, before placing his entire body weight on her neck until it snapped.

The 999 call was played to the jury, and when Easom was asked what had happened, he replied: 'She's just had an accident and she can't move.'

He added: 'She's fallen out of bed and just landed in a bad way really.'

Ms Burgess was taken to hospital and CT scans confirmed her neck had been broken and she would never walk again, and she now requires 24-hour care.

After his arrest, Easom told police in a prepared statement that he would never do anything intentionally to hurt Ms Burgess.

'I love Trudi more than life itself,' he said.

A decision not to reinstate missing items on the statues of military figures in George Square has been made by council officials who deemed them inappropriate.

Concerns were raised at a recent committee meeting by councillor Graham Campbell, who doesn’t believe the city should be celebrating those who promoted slavery and oppressed others.

“They are the military figures Colin Campbell and Sir John Moore. I don’t think anyone in this lifetime will have seen the statues fully with their swords.

“I understand that these statues were restored with bronze swords constructed and added back to the statue.

“I found that extraordinarily offensive because these swords were symbolic and representative of the two military figures who massacred Indians, Caribbeans and Africans in the service of the empire."

A paedophile who had a "commercial interest in the sexual abuse of young teenage boys" and sold child abuse images to other sex offenders has been jailed for raping two 12-year-olds.

Barthimaus Ehiemere, of Hackney, east London, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to 18 years' imprisonment for 47 offences against seven known victims.

Police discovered the 25-year-old groomed boys aged 12 to 16 online, and committed serious sexual offences against them, including seven counts of rape against two boys between 2019 and 2023.

Detectives said Ehiemere would send the boys "gifts, money and praise to coerce them into providing sexual imagery", which he would then use to advertise and encourage other boys to do the same.

Not only that, he would "actively brag about his endeavours" and sell the illegal content to other predators, the Met Police said.
