👌 In her speech, Šimkovičová emphasised the importance of language as a living space for our memories, creativity, and heritage, connecting generations, shaping our identity, and forming the basis of the nation's cultural life. According to the minister, the event was intended to show that the strength of a folk also lies in its language, the cultivation of which is an obligation that connects the past, present, and future.

In a horrifying case of child abuse, a 10 year old girl was strangled to death on her birthday and dismembered, with her remains then set alight.
Victoria Martens was sexually abused by her own mother, according to an autopsy report released months after police discovered the gruesome crime scene. Responding to a 911 call about a domestic dispute, officers arrived to find Victoria's partially wrapped remains in a burning blanket at her home in 2018, as reported by ABC7Chicago.
Michelle, 35, her boyfriend Fabian Gonzales, 31, and Gonzales' cousin Jessica Kelley, also 31, were arrested at the scene. They were charged with first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in grievous bodily harm or death, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Health officials in Glasgow are planning to make the case for a smoking space to be added to the city's drug consumption room.
The Thistle, which opened on Hunter Street in January, is a facility in which people can inject heroin or cocaine while under medical supervision without being prosecuted.
Officials involved in the three-year pilot project say a smoking space for taking cocaine is "critical in order to realise the full benefit" of the facility.
Members of the city's integration joint board (IJB) — which oversees health and social care services — will be asked to approve the development of a business case for an inhalation space later.

A British man who was accused of trying to drown his daughter-in-law at a Florida swimming pool has been released, after agreeing to a plea deal.
Mark Raymond Gibbon, of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, was arrested in August after an incident where he was alleged to have repeatedly held the 33-year-old underwater after they had argued about his grandchildren.
"The victim's nine-year-old daughter jumped into the pool in an attempt to stop Gibbon from drowning her mother."
State prosecutors in Florida said that the victim wanted Gibbon to return to the UK as she felt he had been "punished enough".

NHS Tayside has destroyed hard copy theatre logbooks linked to disgraced neurosurgeon Sam Eljamel despite a "do not destroy" order being in place, a public inquiry has heard.
Eljamel was head of neurosurgery at Dundee's Ninewells Hospital from 1995 until his suspension in December 2013.
During that time he is thought to have harmed dozens of patients and left some with life-changing injuries.
Eljamel resigned from his post in May 2014 and is now believed to be operating in Libya.

Andrew McFarlane, 61, faces claims he caused Ellie Wilson "fear and alarm" by posting a series of offensive, derogatory and abusive comments on a number of social media platforms between October 2023 and October 2025.
His son, Daniel McFarlane, was jailed for five years in 2022 for raping Ms Wilson, who has since become a campaigner for survivors of sexual violence.
Dr McFarlane, a GP in the Highlands, made no plea during a hearing at Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday. The case was continued until next month so that Dr McFarlane could obtain legal representation.
Dr McFarlane was reported to the General Medical Council (GMC) over the allegations after he was arrested in August.
It is also claimed Dr McFarlane posted screenshots of private and sexual conversations between his son and Ms Wilson.

A man called Ruari Cannon, who has waived his right to anonymity, and two other claimants who have not, alleged they were abused by the Hollywood actor at times between 2000 and 2015.
They are taking legal action at the High Court against Spacey, while Mr Cannon is also bringing action against London's Old Vic theatre. The actor was artistic director there between 2004 and 2015.
