When Shaykh Sulaiman al Ruhayli حفظه الله was asked if it is permissible to eat what is in the hand when the Fajr azan is heard?
(Summarized Translation)

So he حفظه الله mentioned that all the ahaadith mentioned drinking only, so drinking yes he can drink what is in his hand but with the condition that he does not hold the cup specifically before the azan so that he can drink when the azan occurs or he is holding it just like that incase azan occurs (which is a common mistake among students of knowledge), in brief it should not be an intended action but something that happens involuntarily like you grabbed the cup and you were about to drink so you heard the azan... As it is a rukhsah (concession) of the shari'ah.

As for food then he said that since no clear and authentic evidence has been narrated with regards to eating and since eating is not the same as drinking I believe even the morsel of food in the mouth must be removed if the azan is given.

When is Laylatul Qadr?

There is no set date for Laylatul Qadr, from the various ahadith we can conclude it is in the last 10 nights, hence why they are the most virtuous, and it is more likely that they are in the odd nights of the last 10. Nevertheless, due to their differing dates, it is recommended and imperative that we all strive as hard as we can every single night within the last 10 days, that way we will not miss Laylatul Qadr.

• What can we do?

There are a number of ibadah that we can do on these nights such as:

•Prayer, pray Tahajjud

•Dua: make dua for whatever you wish, as long as it's in the boundaries of shariah, there's no limit to dua, make dua that you reach the next Laylatul Qadr so you have this opportunity again.

•Dhikr and Salawat: keep your tongue heavy with the remembrance of ALLĀH ﷻ and thank Him for allowing you to reach another Laylatul Qadr. Keep sending salutations to our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

•Qur'an: Laylatul Qadr is when the Quran was revealed so give it its right by reciting as much as you can.

•Itikaaf: if you have an opportunity to do so, go do Itikaaf and naturally all the above actions mentioned will increase too.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to strive hard in these last ten nights more than any other month. Let’s exert ourselves as much as we can Now' .

Some Misunderstandings Concerning Laylatul-Qadr
(The Night of Divine Decree)

1. Some people think that Laylatul-Qadr is only on the 27th night and does not change. To the extent that some among the general folk have labeled the 27th night as "Laylatul-Qadar."

This is a clear mistake because Laylatul-Qadr was found during the time of the Prophet ﷺ on the 23rd, 25th, and 29th Night's.

Yes, the ahadith show that the 27th night is most likely, but it is not fixed; rather, it changes from year to year. This is from the wisdom of ALLĀH ﷻ so that His slaves may strive harder.

2. Some people busy themselves with ʿUmrah and neglect the night prayer, whereas the night prayer is, in fact, more rewarding.


3. Some people spend the entire night making duʿāʾ while falling short in the night prayer.


The Prophet ﷺ has informed us of the main act required from us on Laylatul-Qadr in his saying:

((مَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ))

"Whoever stands [in prayer on] Laylatul-Qadr out of faith and sincerity, will have his past sins forgiven."

Therefore, one should strive as hard as possible in the night prayer during Ramadan, especially in the last ten nights, and even more so on the odd nights.

• Excessive joking.

• Visiting forbidden places.

But Remember If You Aspire To Achieve Lofty Rank's With ‘Ilm, It Doesn’t Happen Overnight, Or In A Couple Of Years, Rather

Take The Advice Shaykh Shuway’ir حفظه الله Gave, Stay Consistent (even if you’re doing 20 minutes a day) And Take The Correct Oath.
There’s Taddaruj In ‘Ilm, (you can find many videos on the correct methodology of seeking knowledge.)

So Have Trust In The Process - Especially If You’re Eager To Seek Knowledge, Remember
طعام الكبار سم الصغار

The Food Of An Adult Is The Poison Of A Small Child
Don’t Study More Than You Can Handle And Ensure You’re Not Studying What’s Not Befitting For You In That Moment, Your Time Will Come.

But These Two Factors, Alongside Sincere Dua To ALLĀH ﷻ For Istiqamah, Will Be All You Need. Everything Else Will Fall Into Place.


Ibrahim al Harbi رحمه الله Mentioned Regarding Imam Ahmad:

I Knew Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal رحمه الله For Twenty (20) Year's;

I Was With Him Night And Day, Summer And Winter, In The Heat And In The Cold,

And Every Day He Outdid What He Had Done The Day Before.

Take Imam Ahmad رحمه الله As Your Example. Ask Yourself At The End Of Everyday, Did I Do Better Than I Did Yesterday?
Take Accountability Of Your Action's And Time Spent.
Don’t Fall Into A Comfortable State Of Not Self Reflecting - This Is Where The Problem Will Fester.

Set Goal's And Make Them Attainable, Find The Mean's To Progress And Try Your Hardest Everyday, That’s All You Can Ask Of Yourself

May ALLĀH ﷻ Grant Us Beneficial Knowledge
