True Repentance | 2 Minute Read

Repentance: Means turning back from disobeying Allaah to obeying Him.

Repentance:
Is beloved to Allah, as He says: “Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves.”
📚 [Surah Al-Baqarah: 222]

Repentance: Is an obligation on every believer.

Allah Says:
“O you who believe! Turn to Allaah in sincere repentance!”
📚 — Surah At-Tahreem: 8

Repentance: Is from the means of attaining success.

Allah Says:
“And O believers, all of you, repent to Allaah in order that you may be successful.”
📚 — Surah An-Noor: 31

Success is when someone gets what he is looking for and is saved from what he is running from.

Through Sincere Repentance:

Allah forgives sins no matter how big they are and no matter how many they are.

Allah Says:
“Say: O My slaves who have transgressed against themselves (because of sins), do not despair from the mercy of Allaah. Verily, Allaah forgives all sins. Verily, He is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
📚— Surah Az-Zumar: 53

O my brother who has fallen into sins, do not despair from the mercy of your Lord, for indeed the door to repentance is open until the sun rises from the west.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Said:
“Verily, Allah extends His hand out at night in order to accept the repentance of the sinner by day. And He extends His hand out during the day in order to accept the repentance of the sinner by night, until (the day) when the sun will rise from its west.”
📚 — Reported by Muslim

And how many people have repented to Allah from numerous and enormous sins and Allah has accepted their repentance?

Allah Says:
“And those who do not supplicate to another god along with Allah, nor do they kill a person that Allaah has made forbidden (to kill) except with just cause, nor do they commit fornication. And whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection and he will abide therein in disgrace. Except those who repent and believe and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
📚
— Surah Al-Furqaan: 68-70

Sincere Repentance:
Must
meet five conditions (in order to be accepted), which are:

1. Sincerity to Allah, the Most High: This is by the person doing it only for the sake of Allaah and seeking His reward and salvation from His punishment.

2. Remorse: for the sin that was committed, such that he is sad he did it and wishes he had never done it.

3. Ceasing: to commit the sin immediately.

If the sin was against Allah, then he should:
(1) stop doing it if it was an unlawful act, or
(2) hasten to do it if it was an obligation that he abandoned doing.

And if the sin was against a created being (such as humans), then he should hasten to free himself from it,
(1) whether by returning it (the right) back to him
(2) or seeking his (the believer’s) forgiveness and pardon.

4. Determination: to not go back to doing that sin again in the future.

5. The repentance should not occur before the time when its acceptance is terminated, either by death or by the sun rising from the west.

Allah Says:
“Repentance is of no effect for those who commit sins constantly until when death faces one of them, he says: Verily I repent now.”

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Said:
“Whoever repents before the sun rises from its west, Allah will accept his repentance."
📚 Reported by Muslim

O Allah, grant us the sincere repentance and accept it from us, verily You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Whenever you Notice your life is being disturbed and changed,

Then recall a blessing that you have not thanked Allah for (and thank Him for it)

Or a sin you have previously committed (and seek forgiveness for it).

Rectification: One of the Conditions of Repentance (Tawbah) | Reading Time: 2 minutes

Imaam al-Bukhaaree (rahimahullah) said in his Saheeh:

Chapter: "Knowledge Precedes Speech and Actions."

Indeed, knowledge is required even for repentance as there are many conditions involved with repentance.

1. Remorse: The person should regret and be remorseful for his sins; which is the opposite of finding pleasure and satisfaction while sinning.

2. Cessation: Repentance is not possible while one is still committing the sin.

He should desist it immediately and determine not to return to it again.

If he repeats the same mistake, the process of Repentance has to be started a new.

3. Apology: Seeking Allaah's forgiveness through prayers, supplications, Istighfaar and humility.

4. Rectification: Rectification applies both to the relationship between oneself and Allaah, which must be amended, and to the rights (amaanaat) of one’s fellow human beings.

Certain acts (such as violation of Ihram, breaking oaths, and accidental killing) require a kaffaarah (expiation);

yet, in most cases involving obligations to Allaah alone, the conditions of regret, cessation and apology are the only requirements for forgiveness.

However, a person who is especially anxious to regain the pleasure of Allaah (fearing a fault in his repentance) can undertake to do extra deeds of righteousness such as additional prayers, fasting or charity – in short, any lawful means of worship (upon Tawheed).

As for injury done to another party (which is disobedience to Allaah as well), the damage must be restored or adequately compensated for whenever possible,

or the forgiveness of the other party must be obtained (by way of sincere apology).

For example, if a person made a mistake while preaching, he should openly come out and rectify that mistake so that the audience is saved from the harm of being misled or misguided.

Another example, if a property has been taken in an unlawful manner or damaged, it must be returned or replaced (even if this might involve a long search for someone wronged years ago, or if he has died, for his heirs).

In the case of harm done by the word of mouth (as through false witness or slander), one must make the utmost effort to right his wrong by confessing openly and asking forgiveness of the victim.

If it is thought that (as in some cases backbiting and gossip of which the victim is unaware) admission might lead to further problems, one should certainly take care to speak well of that person on future occasions and ask forgiveness from Allaah.

Ataa reported from Mu’aadh bin Jabl (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

(O people!) Keep your duty to Allaah and fear him as much as you can. And remember Allaah near every stone and tree (i.e., remember Allaah a lot). And if you committed a sin, follow it up with repentance – a secret (mistake to be repented) secretly; and an open (mistake to be repented) publicly.

📚 [Reported by Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullah) in “az-Zuhd”, 26 and Tabaraanee (rahimahullah) in “al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, 20/159/331; see as-Saheehah 1475 and 3320 of Shaikh al-Albaanee (rahimahullah). Graded: Hasan Lighayrihi (i.e., graded “good” due to corroborating evidence)]

Have we checked our hearts?

▪️Al-Allamah Ibn Uthaymeen Rahimahullah Said:

“Look after your heart, look at your heart is there any shirk in it?

Is there any hate for what Allāhﷻ has revealed?

Is there any hate for the worshipers of Allāhﷻ?

Is there any love or allegiance for the disbelievers?

Are you experiencing feelings of envy?

Purify your heart from these things because this is what they are Judged by”

Shaykh Ibn Jibreen (Rahimahullah) Said:

It is not permissible for a woman to be appointed to public positions which generally require speaking with men, mixing with them and going out frequently, asking questions of non-Mahram men, and answering their questions. Such behaviour indicates that a woman is careless and audacious, which will lead to her giving up her modesty.

This position also requires her to raise her voice. This is contrary to her femininity and modesty.

Similarly a woman cannot become an imam or khateeb or lawyer who has to frequent the courts and offices which are filled with men.

This is also a type of imitating men, (this behavior falls under imitating the opposite gender)

And the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Cursed women who imitate men.

Can a Muslim Ruler Imprison a Woman of Loose Morals?

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah) Said:

And he (the ruler) may imprison the woman if she leaves her house (without reason and) regularly, especially (deliberately) in a beautified manner.

Rather allowing her to do so is aiding her in sin, and Allah will ask him about this.

🍂🥀 Sweetness Of Imaan🥀🍂

He doesn’t PRAY Five times a Day, but he’s a Good Muslim…
She doesn’t wear HIJAB she’s a Good Muslimah…
They are very Respectful of other Religions and Celebrate their Festival's out of Respect for them; they’re Such good Muslims…

No he/she and they Aren’t Good Muslims. As People, they may have Some good Qualities, but they are Not “good Muslims”. One who does Not Fulfill Obligations such as Salah, Zakah, HIJAB etc...
Is Disobedient to of Allāhﷻ and has placed their personal desires over the commands of their Lord; this means they are not good Muslims, even if they may be nice people in other ways. Similarly, one who “respects” falsehood and shows disregard for and disrespects their Creator is not a “good Muslim”. Again, they may be nice in many ways, but their flagrant disregard for Allāh'sﷻ laws disqualifies them from being good Muslims. However, the doors of repentance are open, and they can redeem themselves, In Shaa Allah.

The Misgu
idance and misinformation taught by many “Scholars” and speakers is scary.
The minds of our youth are being corrupted and they have lost sight of what being obedient a slaves of Allāhﷻ means.

The Story of The Repentance of the Musician Zadhaan al-Kindyy (rahimahullah)

One day Abdullah ibn Mas’ood
(raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) was passing by a town near the city of Kufa.

There was a gathering of corrupt youths in a house who were busy drinking alcohol in a party.

A musician named ‘Zazaan’ (زاذان الكندى) was playing the flute and singing in his beautiful voice.

When Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) heard his voice, he said: What a sweet-sounding voice is this. I wish this voice would have been used in the recitation of the Quran.

After saying those words, Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) put a cloak on his head and went on ahead.

Zazaan overheard Ibn Mas’ood’s (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) words. He asked his friends at the party: Who was that person?!

People told him: That person is a famous Companion of the Prophet Muhammad (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) and he said what he did because he heard your voice.

Upon hearing that, Zazaan went into a strange state of realization.

He suddenly broke all his musical instruments, an ran to catch up with Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) and stood before him crying profusely.

Ibn Mas’ood (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) understood and he embraced him and started to weep himself and then said:

Why wouldn’t I love a person who repented from playing his musical instruments and Allah loves him (for his repentance)?!

After repenting, Zazan (rahimahullāh) became a student of Ibn Mas‘ood (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) and learned the Qur’an and Islamic knowledge from him.

Later, he became an Islamic scholar, (reciting, learning and teaching the Quran), and an authority in the Islamic sciences of his time.

Why is Allah’s Book called Qur'an

At the first mention of the word "Quran" in the Musahf
📚(se
e surah 2:185),

Imam Abu Muhammad al-Baghawi (rahimahullah) wrote:

The Quran is called "Quran" because it brings together the surahs, ayaat and letters and brings together stories, commands, prohibitions, promises and threats.

Th
e root of the word *qar* is "gathering", and the letter hamzah can be omitted from it.

For
instance, one could say:

“qarayt (gatherer) water in a cistern" when he gathered water together.

Ib
n Katheer (rahīmahullāh) recited the word as *al-Quran* القُرَان with a fathah on the letter raa without the letter hamzah

Th
at is also how ash-Shafi'ee (rahimahullah) recited it. He (rahimahullah) said: The word "Quran" is not derived from "qiraa'ah" - recitation,

ra
ther, it is a proper name for this Book, just like the names "at-Tawrah" and "al-Injeel".

👤 Sheikh Fawzan was asked the following question:
▪️ Question: Every Friday one of my colleagues sends me a text saying "Ju'muaah Mubaarak" and he continues saying that he hopes that I will add that to my cell phone greeting or to my greeting on the internet forums; what is your view of this?
▫️Answer: Sheikh Fawzan This is an innovation, Allah has not sent down any authority for this action. This is an action that is not known or narrated in the Sunnah; it has not been narrated that the Muslims should congratulate each other on Friday; rather it has only been reported that they would congratulate each other on Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitr not on Friday. Therefore putting this is a text and encouraging others to do it is an innovation and from spreading innovation.
👤 Sheikh Abdul Musin Al Abaad was asked the following question
▪️ Question: Based on the premise that Friday is a (Eid) holiday, is it permissible to greet each other saying, Ju’muaah Mubaarak or Ju’muaah Accepted?
▫️Answer: Sheikh Abdul Musin Al Abaad:
By Allah, we don’t know of anything that proves the validity of this. As for the two Eids then it has been Narrated that the companions when they would meet each other they would say,
“May Allāhﷻ accept it from us and you” Or “May Allāhﷻ accept your obedience”.

🔹𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗔 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗺 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿'𝘀?

𝖡𝗒 𝖲𝗁𝖺𝗒𝗄𝗁 𝖴𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗒𝗆𝖾𝖾𝗇 رحمه الله 𝖲𝖺𝗂𝖽:-
Then what is worse than that; is some Muslims celebrate the New Year, and they glorify it and venerate it, and it is connected to the religious occasion of the Christians; which is; what? The birthday of the Messiah Eesa ibn Maryam peace be upon him. Thus celebrating New Year's Eve, yes, in relation with the birth of the Messiah; this is rejoicing with their religious rites and practices. And rejoicing with kufr practices—if the person who is pleased with this is safe from disbelief—then it is as ibn Al Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him said in his book, ‘the ruling on the dhimmi’ it is more severe than being pleased with drinking alcohol and worshiping the cross.

Thus the affair is very dangerous O brothers. It is not permissible for the person to celebrate Christmas; if he is a Muslim. And it is not permissible for him to congratulate them for this holiday; if he is a Muslim. And it is not permissible for him to respond to this greeting if they congratulate him for this holiday; if he is a Muslim.

Subhan'Allah! Shall we congratulate them for a holiday which is considered as a religious practice?
And is this anything other than being pleased with disbelief? But most of those who congratulate them do not intend to exalt their religion or practices, but rather they only intend what; to be courteous. And this is incorrect.

𝖨𝖿 𝖲𝗈𝗆𝖾𝗈𝗇𝖾 𝖲𝖺𝗒'𝗌 ; I am courteous to them because they are courteous to me and they congratulate me for Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. We say: Alhamdulillah. If they congratulate you with Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr, then they have congratulated you for legislated holiday, which Allah has made for His slaves. And it is mandatory for Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr to be their holidays, because it is obligatory upon them to accept Islam. But if you congratulate them for Christmas then you are congratulating them for a holiday which Allāhﷻ has not designated as a holiday.

Thus Christmas has no basis in history and it has no basis in the religious legislation. Eesa ibn Maryam did not command them to establish this holiday. Thus it is either that, which was entered into the religion of the Messiah as innovation and misguidance, or it was prescribed in the legislation of Eesa ibn Maryam but it has been abrogated by the legislation of Islam.
Therefore it has no basis by any estimation. Because if we said it is from the innovation of the Christians and it is not from their legislation; then it is misguidance. And if we said it is from their legislation, then it has been abrogated; and to worship Allāhﷻ with an abrogated religion is misguidance; thus it is misguidance by any estimation. And because it is misguidance, how is it befitting for me—while I am a Muslim—to congratulate them for it?!

And we have answered the issue of them congratulating us for our Eid and us not congratulating them for their holiday because our Eid has been legislated by Allāhﷻ the Exalted; while their holiday is not legislated. This is because it has either been fabricated in their legislation or abrogated by our legislation. Thus it has no basis in any regard.

The Questioner says: Many messages are circulating and reaching some of the people saying that we must pray two Rak'ats around 12:00 midnight so that we end the Gregorian year with prayer and begin the New Year with prayer. What is the ruling on this?

▫️ 𝖠𝗇𝗌𝗐𝖾𝗋:

May Allāhﷻ bless you, this is from innovation, misguidance, and superstition which has no basis in the religion. O brother, may Allāhﷻ bless you, the prayer is not legislated for these things. The prayer is either obligatory and legislated or a Sunnah which the Messenger, clarified; upon him be prayers and peace. As for making the prayer to be for the commencement of the year and to conclude the year, or to commence the day, or to conclude the day this is from the deviation of those who are astray and leading others astray; and every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance is in the fire. When the people distanced themselves from the Book and the Sunnah they fell into these innovations. Akhee, had it been the Hijrī year, it would've been innovation and misguidance, so what do you think regarding the Gregorian year?!
Have Taqwā of Allāhﷻ, may Allāhﷻ bless you and beware of these innovations. The Muslim must worship Allāhﷻ in every instance, at all times, either by way of a legislative obligation or a clearly defined Sunnah known from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. As for these innovations and misguidance which the ignorant, astray commoners who are similar to animals introduce, beware of these deviations may Allāhﷻ bless you. By Allāhﷻ, I am amazed that in a time in which knowledge is wide spread, the Sunnah is wide spread, and the people know the truth from falsehood, that there are people still upon these deviations and innovations. Whenever and innovation is born a Sunnah dies. So have Taqwā of Allāhﷻ. This is from the innovations which pass upon the people every year. Every month they have an innovation; every year they have an innovation; in every condition they have an innovation. Have Taqwā of Allāhﷻ, my brother. Acts of worship are only either obligatory or Sunan clarified by the Prophet, upon him be prayers and peace, and the pious predecessors. Leave off these innovations and stay far away from them. Safeguard your religion and the safety of your Aqīdah and the Sunnah. May Allāhﷻ bless you, and Allāh's Aid is sought.
