PART: 6 (Chapter – 5)
THE CONFRONTATION ON SHARING WATER
After a long confrontational situation, their leaders gathered and decided unanimously that the she-camel should be hamstrung, so that they could be relieved and get a sufficient portion of water for themselves. “So they slew the she-camel and insolently defied their Lord’s Command and challenged Saleh saying: ‘Bring us that which you threatened us with; if you are a Messenger.”’ (7:77)
The person who took the charge of slaying that she-camel was their chief Qidar bin Salif bin Junda. It is said that he was a man born out of wedlock. His action was by consensus of the people and that is why his act of slaying is regarded as the act of his whole people.
REWARD FOR KILLING THE SHE-CAMEL – WOMEN
Ibn Jarir and other exegetes have said: There were two women in Thamud, the name of one of them was Saduq who was the daughter of Mahya bin Zuhair. She was wealthy and of noble descent. She was married to one who became a believer, so she divorced him. Then she went to one of her cousins, who was called Masra bin Muharraj and suggested that if he were to kill the she-camel, she would marry him. The name of the other woman was Unaizah bint Ghunaim, nicknamed Umm Ghanmah, she was old and a disbeliever. She had daughters form her husband Dhwab bin Amr, one of the chieftains. She displayed her four daughters upon Qidar bin Salif and said if he were to kill the she-camel, he could marry anyone of them he wanted.
THE NINE CONSPIRATORS
These two youths volunteered themselves to kill her and wanted some more from the community to come forward. Seven more of them made themselves available, and so they became nine people. The Qur’an said about them:
“And there were in the city nine people who made mischief in the land and did not act righteously.” (27:48)
THE KILLING
They tried to persuade the rest of the tribe by showing the benefit of killing that she-camel. They agreed to their plan. They went out lying in wait for her. When she came out from the watering place, Masra ambushed her and aimed his arrow at her and permeated it into her shinbone.

PROPHET: SALEH (عليه السلام)
PART: 7 (Chapter – 5)
THE SHE-CAMEL GETS HAMSTRUNG
Women came along to instigate their tribe to kill her, and uncovered their faces to the men to excite them. Qidar bin Salif came forward with his sword and hamstrung her and she fell on the ground.
The Qur’an said: “But they called their companion and he took a sword and hamstrung her. See how was My punishment and how True My warnings.” (54:29-30). And said: “When their most wretched broke forth with mischief; then the Messenger of Allah said to them: ‘The she-camel of Allah, let her have her drink. But they disbelieved him and they hamstrung her, for their sin their Lord obliterated them. And He fears not the consequence thereof.” (91: 12-15)
THE MOST WRETCHED OF PEOPLE!
Imam Ahmad has narrated from Abdullah bin Zam’ah, who said: Once the Prophet ﷺ mentioned in his sermon the she-camel and mentioned the person who killed her. He recited: “When their most wretched broke forth with mischief.” And said: “There came forward a mighty and strong person strengthened by the power of his tribe, like Abu Zam’ah.”
And it is narrated by Ammar bin Yasir, who said that the Prophet ﷺ said to Ali: “Shall I not tell you about the most wretched people?” He said: “Yes, please.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Two men, one of them is the man of Thamud who killed the she-camel and the one who hit you on your head until your beard got wet…”
THAMUD COLLECTED ALL SORTS OF DISBELIEF
“So they slew the she-camel and insolently defied their Lord’s Command and challenged Saleh saying: “Bring us that which you threaten us with; if you are a Messenger.” (7:77)
In this small statement they have collected together all sorts of disbelief:
1.They disobeyed Allah and His Messenger by committing the sin of hamstringing the she-camel which was a sign for them.
2.They hastened the punishment and they deserve it for two reasons: Firstly, the Qur’an had said: “and do not harm her, lest you be seized by a swift chastisement.” But they harmed her. Secondly, they hastened for the punishment, so they deserved it.
3.They rejected the Messenger who produced the unquestionable evidence for his Prophethood and truthfulness, which they knew in their hearts. However, their persistence in their disbelief and erroneous way and their slandering about the truth kept them away from the Truth. “But they slew her and he said: ‘Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days, this is a promise not to be belied.’” (11:65)

Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله Said:
"Whoever finds Their Joy in Salah in this Life, will find their Joy in Being close to ALLĀH ﷻ in the Hereafter, and will also Find his Joy in ALLĀH ﷻ in this World. Whoever Finds his Joy in ALLĀH ﷻ will be Content with Everything, and whoever does Not Find his Joy in ALLĀH ﷻ, will be Destroyed by his Feelings of Grief and Regret for worldly Matter's."
[al-Waabil al-Sayyib, Pg 40]
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawazuyyah رحمه الله Stated:
The Origins of Wrongdoing are Three:
1. Arrogance: It is that which drove Iblees to that which it drove him (i.e. to commit that which Iblees committed).
2. Desire: It is that which caused Aadam to be expelled from the Paradise.
3. Jealousy: It is that which caused one of the sons of Aadam to transgress against his brother.
Therefore, whoever is Protected From the Evil of these Three (traits) then InDeeD he has been Protected from Evil.
For Disbelief is from
- arrogance;
- from desires; and
- transgression and
- oppression from jealousy.

الإمام ابن كثير - قصص الأنبياء
PROPHET: SALEH (عليه السلام)
PART: 8 (Chapter – 5)
THE CALF HOWLS THREE TIMES!
It is mentioned that when they hamstrung the she-camel, the first one who attacked her was Qidar bin Salif, may Allah curse him. He slew her and she fell on the ground. Then all of them rushed forward cutting her into pieces, when her calf watched all this, he fled from there and went onto the peak of the mountain and howled three times.
THE DEADLINE OF THREE DAYS
That is why Saleh said to them: “Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days,” i.e. excluding the day when they slew the she-camel. They could not believe even in that definite threat. When it got darker on that evening they even tried to kill Saleh and dispatch him where the she-camel had gone, according to their claim. “They said: ‘Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a night attack on him and his family and then we will say to his heir: we did not witness the slaying of his family and we are saying the truth.’” (27:49). We will kill him together with his family and then denounce their murder by disowning it.
THAMUD AND PUNISHMENT
ALLĀH ﷻ said: “And they devised a plot and We planned a plan while they did not perceive. See how was the end of their plot, for We destroyed them and their people all together. So these are their houses in utter ruin, because of the evil they committed. Surely, there is a sign in this for the people who have knowledge. And We rescued those who believed and were god-fearing.” (27:50-53)
STONES SENT TO CRUSH THAMUD
ALLĀH ﷻ sent upon those people who plotted to murder Saleh a stone which crushed them and destroyed them before their whole people were destroyed (by the Divine Punishment). When it was the morning of Thursday – which was their first day of the three days – their faces turned pale, as Saleh had warned them. In the evening they said: One day of the deadline has passed. When it was the second day, Friday, their faces were red. In the evening they called each other: Two days of the deadline have passed. When it was the third day, Saturday, their faces were black and in the evening, they said: All three days of the deadline have passed.

PART: 9 (Chapter – 5)
SUNDAY – THEY PERFUMED AND WAITED FOR THE CALAMITY
When it was Sunday morning, they perfumed themselves and sat down in readiness, waiting for the punishment which was going to come to them. They had no idea what is going to befall on them, or from which side it’s going to come.
THE BLAST FROM THE SKY!
After the sun rose, a mighty blast came from the sky, and a quack from their beneath. All souls died and every movement stopped therewith. There were no noises left there. They remained in their houses squatting and lifeless and motionless. It is said that nobody was left alive except a disabled girl, whose name was Kalbah. She was the archenemy of Saleh and when she was the punishment coming, she ran away on her legs and ran fast as anything could run. She came to an Arab tribe and informed them what she has seen of the punishment inflicted upon her people. She asked them water to drink, when she drank she died.
Allah said: “As if they had never dwelt there, for Thamud disbelieved in their Lord, so obliterate Thamud!” (11:68) It seemed as though they had never lived there in such a life of comfort and abundance.
DO NOT ASK FOR THE SIGNS
Imam Ahmad has narrated from Jabir رضي الله عنهwho said: When the Prophet ﷺ passed by the Rocky Tract of Thamud, he said: “Do not ask for signs, as the people of Saleh had asked for it meaning the she-camel. She went for her water from this way and come back from that way. They transgressed against their Lord and slew her. She drank from their water one day and they drank from her milk one day. They slew her and so the Blast which Allah sent upon them from the sky, seized them except one man who was in the Haram of Allah. They asked: Who was that person, O Messenger of Allah? The Prophet ﷺ said: He was Abu Righal, when he came out from the Haram, the same punishment was inflicted upon him which had inflicted his people.”

PROPHET: SALEH (عليه السلام)
PART: 10 (Chapter – 5)
ABU RIGHAL – THE TWIG OF GOLD
It is narrated from Ismail bin Umaiyah, who said that the Prophet ﷺ passed by the grave of Abu Righal and said:
“Do you know who was this Man?”
They said: “Allah and His Messenger know better.” The Prophet then said:
“This is the grave of Abu Righal, a man from Thamud, he was in the Haram, protecting himself. But when he came out of it, the same punishment was inflicted upon him, as what his people suffered from, and so he was buried here. And he was buried with a twig of gold. People went towards the grave and started to dig and search for it with their swords and so they found it.”
SALEH ADDRESSES HIS PEOPLE
And He said: “So Saleh left them and said:
"O my people! I did indeed convey to you the Message of my Lord and I advised you sincerely but you do not love sincere advisers.” (7:79)
When Thamud were destroyed by their affliction of the punishment, Saleh addressed them afterwards and said:
“I tried my best to guide you by every means but you were not a people to accept the truth and wisdom.”
In the same manner our Prophet ﷺ addressed those who were killed in the battle of Badr and were put in the well. He stood there on his mount and said: “O people of the well!
Did you find true what your Lord has promised you?
I have found true what my Lord had promised me.” He said: “How bad a tribe to your Prophet you were! You rejected me when others believed in me and you expelled me out when others gave me refuge. You fought against me when others sided with me, so how bad a tribe of the Prophet to your Prophet you were! Umar رضي الله عنهsaid:
“O Messenger of Allah! Do you address people whose bodies are decayed by now?”
The Prophet ﷺ answered: “I swear by the One n Whose Hand is my soul, you don’t hear what I am saying any better than they do, but they were unable to answer.
It is said that Saleh moved to the Haram of Makkah and stayed there till his death.
THE VALLEY OF ASFAAN
Imam Ahmad has narrated from Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه who said: When the Prophet passed by the valley of Asfaan on his way to his pilgrimage he said: “O Abu Bakr! Which valley is this?” He replied: “The valley of Asfaan!” The Prophet said “Hud عليه السلام and Saleh عليه السلام passed by it on their young camels whose nosebands were of fibres. Their covering (Izar) was Iba (long cloak), their outer garment was made of wool and they were glorifying Allah by pronouncing Talbiyyah, when they went to perform their pilgrimage.

PROPHET: SALEH (عليه السلام)
PART: 11 (Chapter – 5)
THE PROPHET ﷺ PASSING THROUGH THE THAMUD’S RUINS
Imam Ahmad has narrated from Abdullah bin Umar saying: When the Prophet ﷺ came with the people to Tabuk, he camped at Al-Hijr near to the houses of Thamud. People drank from the same wells from which Thamud used to drink. They kneaded their flours from the water and prepared to cook. The Prophet ﷺ stopped them. So they threw what was being cooked in their pots and fed the kneaded flour to their camels. Then he departed from that place with them until he came to the well from which the she-camel used to drink. He forbade them to enter those places of people who were punished by Allah and said: “I fear that the same adversity may afflict you which afflicted them, so do not enter their places.”
In another narration it is said that when the Prophet ﷺ passed by their houses, he masked his face and hastened his camel and prohibited the entry of their houses except that one is crying. In another narration he said: “If you could not cry, then pretend that you are crying, fearing that you will be afflicted with what they were afflicted with.”
Imam Ahmad narrated from Muhammad biin Abu Kabshah who narrated from his father who said: When we went for the Battle of Tabuk, people rushed towards the houses of Thamud and entered into them. The news reached to the Prophet ﷺ and so he asked the people to gather at one place. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and he was holding his camel and saying: “You should not enter upon people with whom ALLĀH ﷻ became angry”. A man said: “We are only doing it as a wonder!” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Shall I not tell you about something more astonishing than that?
It is a man from among yourselves informing you about those who were before you, and what is going to happen after you, so you should be steadfast and righteous. ALLĀH ﷻ does not give importance to your punishment and there will come some people who will not care about their deeds.”
It is said that the ages of the people of Thamud were very long. They would build a house of mud and their houses would fall apart before they die. That is why they hew out houses from stones in the mountains.

PROPHET: ABRAHAM - IBRAHIM (عليه السلام)
PART: 1 (Chapter – 6)
HIS LINEAGE
He is Abraham bin Terah (250) bin Nahor (148) bin Serug (230) bin Reu (239) bin Peleg (439) bin Eber (464) bin Shelah (433) bin Arphaxad (438) bin Shem (600) bin Noah عليه السلام
This is how it came in the text of Ahlul-Kitaab (People of the Book) in their Book. The age of every one of them after their names have been mentioned. (Bible, Genesis 11)
A LITTLE BRIEFING
Ibn Asakir has narrated from Ikrimah saying: Abraham was nicknamed as ‘Abu Difan’.
It is said: When his father Terah was 75 years old, Abraham and his brothers Nahor and Haran were born to him. Haran had a son called Lot, [who later became a Prophet].
It is also said that Abraham was the second son of his father and Haran died during the life of his father in the land where he was born in; the land of Chaldeans (Babylonia).
This is the most famous and credible opinion among the historians. Ibn Asakir has authenticated this opinion and said that he was born in Babylon.
Historians have mentioned that Abraham married Sarah. However, she was barren and had no child.
Terah took his son Abraham, his daughter-in-law Sarah, his grandson Lot – the son of Haran and set off from the land of Chaldeans towards the land of Canaan. However, when they stopped at Haran, Terah died there at the age of 250. This shows that he was not born in Haran. His birthplace was Chaldea: the land of Babylonia.
THE NORTH POLE AND THE SEVEN STARS
Then they set off for Canaan, the land of Baitul-Maqdis. They lived for a while in Haran, the land of Chaldeans at that time and then lived in the lands of Arabian Peninsula and Syria. In Syria, people worshiped the seven stars. Those who lived in Damascus were followers of this religion.
They would turn their faces towards the North Pole and worship the seven stars with peculiar rituals involving verbal utterance and physical activities. This is why we find on each of the seven ancient gates of Damascus an altar for each of those stars. They celebrated them and offered their sacrifices to them.
So the people of Haran also worshiped stars and idols. And so there were no believers except Abraham, his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot.
