The president of the Legislative Council of Zulia, Iraida Villasmil, spoke out this Friday regarding the political tensions in Maracaibo resulting from the demand of the municipal comptroller, Antonio Bermúdez, to the president of the Municipal Council of Maracaibo, Omar Molina, and the acting mayor of the city, Adrián Romero, to make public statements recognizing the legitimacy of Nicolás Maduro as president.

"As the President of the Regional Legislative Council, I would not like to be questioned by other powers in compliance with my own obligations, rules and duties," said the leader of the CLEZ.

He added: “I recognize the authority that sits in Miraflores and that was sworn in by the national legislative power.”

According to Villasmil, the controversy experienced in the Land of the Beloved Sun is due to “so much triviality and so much confrontation,” which is why he urged people to “cooperate” in favor of political work for the state and the country in general.

The head of the Chilean Immigration Service, Eduardo Thayer, said on Friday that the Andean country “will not encourage new migratory flows” nor “change its border migration policy due to a crisis in some country in the region” in the face of a possible massive arrival of foreigners to the South American country.

He says that, although it is “premature” to talk about a new wave of migration, the Chilean government “will continue to increase border control and reduce irregular entry.”
