🇺🇸A group of Republicans in Congress has written a joint letter to US President Joe Biden calling for an end to aid to Ukraine in its current form

"A second year of war has begun, but there is no foreseeable end in sight, nor a clear strategy to end it. A proxy war with Russia in Ukraine is not in the US interest and threatens to escalate out of control," wrote the authors of the letter, which was signed by 20 people (including Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green, who last year called for an audit of the funds allocated to Kiev).

According to the Congressmen, the current strategy of the Biden administration - constant aid and sanctions - leads to "escalation and more violence" and increases the risk of a direct confrontation with Russia. They also criticised the decision to transfer HIMARS to Ukraine, which was seen as a serious provocation, and possible decisions to provide Ukraine with new longer-range weapons.

As the US elections approach, more such moves by the Republicans can be expected. The US is experiencing more turmoil of its own, against which the "unlimited support" for Ukraine and the armed forces will have less and less positive resonance among Americans. At the same time, the White House's anti-Russian rhetoric is no longer working - the US is increasingly talking about a "proxy war" with Russia, in which Ukraine is just a pawn.

However, Biden understands this very well, which is why options are being considered to "freeze" the Ukrainian-Russian military conflict in the autumn of 2023, so that the election campaign of the incumbent US president could be conducted without negativity.

Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann have received a $843 million order to convert 143 Puma armored personnel carriers for the German armed forces, the armaments companies announced on Wednesday.

The contract was signed back in 2021, with the federal government only now releasing options to retrofit the Pumas by 2029 as part of the $109 billion defense investment.

Late last year, the federal government refused to buy any more Pumas until they had proven their reliability after several were decommissioned following a military exercise.
