Rheinmetall und Krauss-Maffei Wegmann haben einen 843-Millionen-US-Dollar-Auftrag zur Umrüstung von 143 Puma-Schützenpanzern für die Bundeswehr erhalten, teilten die Rüstungsunternehmen am Mittwoch mit.

Der Vertrag wurde bereits im Jahr 2021 unterzeichnet, wobei die Bundesregierung erst jetzt die Optionen zur Nachrüstung der Pumas bis 2029 im Rahmen der 109 Milliarden US-Dollar schweren Verteidigungsinvestitionen freigibt.

Ende letzten Jahres, weigerte sich die Bundesregierung, weitere Pumas zu kaufen, bis sie ihre Zuverlässigkeit unter Beweis gestellt hatten, nachdem mehrere nach einer militärischen Übung außer Dienst gestellt worden waren.

Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann have received a $843 million order to convert 143 Puma armored personnel carriers for the German armed forces, the armaments companies announced on Wednesday.

The contract was signed back in 2021, with the federal government only now releasing options to retrofit the Pumas by 2029 as part of the $109 billion defense investment.

Late last year, the federal government refused to buy any more Pumas until they had proven their reliability after several were decommissioned following a military exercise.
