The Fed Ex delivery guy couldn't be bothered to carry my 200 backers' books to the porch where they would be safe, so he left them stacked against my garage door to be rained upon. Fortunately the cardboard appears to have absorbed the water, but I'm drying out all the books just to be sure.

Not Meeting Expectations on Any Front
After months of predicted success and weeks of asserted success, the media narrative is finally beginning to accept the obvious fact of a failed Ukrainian offensive: Ukraine’s ongoing counteroffensive against Russian forces is “not meeting expectations on any front,” Western and US officials told CNN on Thursday. Ukrainian troops and armor are proving “vulnerable” to […]

TIL that in the 17th century, when coffee had made its way to Europe, some people reacted to it with suspicion or fear, calling it the “bitter invention of Satan.” In 1615, the clergy in Venice asked Pope Clement VIII to intervene. He found the drink so satisfying that he gave it papal approval.

Scientists use deep learning algorithms to predict political ideology based on facial characteristics
A new study in Denmark used machine learning techniques on photographs of faces of Danish politicians to predict whether their political ideology is left- or right-wing. The accuracy of predictions was 61%. Faces of right-wing politicians were more likely…
In the 1940s, physicists and engineers alike used Stratton’s Electromagnetic Theory as their text. They learned about such applied topics as simple antennas, waveguides, arrays, even radio wave propagation over the earth. Today, physicists use Jackson’s Classical Electrodynamics. There’s still material on simple antennas and waveguides, but nothing on arrays and the only practical case of radio wave propagation mentioned is Schumann resonances.
Meanwhile radio scientists and electromagnetic engineers have taken Schelkunoff’s concept of “impedance” and put it to work in a host of practical applications understanding transmission and reflection of microwave signals. They’ve worked out link laws that describe what fraction of energy makes it from a transmitter to a receiver, or reflects from a target in a radar system. They’ve worked out fundamental equations for physical limits on the size and performance of small antennas.
What else don’t physicists know about electromagnetism? And what implications does it have for our understanding of how the world works?

🇺🇸🇪🇺🇺🇦 “If you were to create a new military unit and you had a large number of soldiers with the most military experience in the world (some Ukrainian officers are 8 year veterans), you'd figure that if you were going to make a new brigade that you'd mix some of them in to help.
I think one of the more interesting EUCOM pathologies you see is that they seem to genuinely believe that a freshly-trained "NATO standard" brigade would perform better solely on the basis of "NATO training" than a veteran Ukrainian equivalent.
You have the actual best tanks available to Europe (insofar as the 2a7 is mostly vaporware) being given to brigades commanded by 28 year olds with no military experience. Meanwhile the territorial gains that have taken place (all 3 villages!) have been accomplished by 128th.
I think that at the end of the day the resolute smugness of EUCOM planning will be remembered as the biggest flaw of this offensive.”

⚡🇷🇺 Okay because I have 15 braincells, here is what we know, for sure, happened.
The "coup" so far is digital and paperwork in nature, there's audio clips from Prigozhin, videos and audio clips of responses from Russian generals appealing to Prigozhin, the Attorney General in Saint Petersburg also filed some article shit against Prigozhin, there's NOTHING going on in Rostov yet, there are no armed clashes yet, and everyone and their mother is trying to be an expert on this, we do not even have physicial proof and evidence that the convoys went into Russia in the first place, just vague statements, and even then only by Prigozhin and some random single media organization
This is a complete circus moment, except that the Russian stock market just took a pretty bad hit - investors don't like being in a place that has civil strife, real or fabricated.
By the way, the fact that we don't have even a single video of the hundreds of Wagner issued vehicles being in Russia atm just tells me we are in the "wait and see" phase like some others noted, the coup, so far, like I said earlier, is digital and paperwork nature.
