Hiram Maxim developed and installed the first electric lights in a New York City building (the Equitable Life Building (New York City) in the 1870s.

The bulbs at the Mercantile Company were those of the U.S. Electric Lighting Company, a company driven forward by their outstanding  engineer, Hiram Maxim. Edison called Maxim's bulb a clean steal of his lamp. Yet Maxim had seventeen patents on incandescent lamps, and his company controlled the patents of several other inventors, also contemporary to Edison.

Maxim thought of himself as the inventor of the commercial light bulb. "Every time I put up a light, he complained, a crowd would gather, everyone asking, 'Is it Edison's?" This so irritated Maxim, who noted that Edison at the time had never made a lamp. However, he was involved in several lengthy patent disputes with Thomas Edison over his claims to the lightbulb.

🇺🇸🛢️ The US Needs to Refill its Dangerously Low Oil Reserves

The SPR today contains less than half the crude it had at its peak just over a decade ago. At about 350 million barrels, it's at its lowest since 1983.

To put what’s left into perspective, the US released about 270 million barrels over the last two years to cap oil prices. If the SPR is a revolver, it has a final round left in the chamber — and that’s it.

"US officials have expressed concerns that Israel has no workable plan for sending ground forces into Gaza, and are questioning whether the IDF can achieve its goal of annihilating the Hamas militant group, according to the New York Times."

'The Biden Administration Tries to Hide What It Knew About an Impending Massacre':

"It’s also not true the United States doesn’t train enormous intelligence assets on Hamas. As everyone now knows, the NSA collects on virtually everyone in the world. Further, the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East is in Qatar at Al Udeid Air Base, which is also the forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command. The Gulf emirate hosts Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, and former chief Khaled Meshaal, to the consternation of many who wonder why Washington lets Qatar get away with its double game. U.S. intelligence officials believe that it’s easier to keep tabs on Haniyeh in Qatar where they have plenty of visibility into what he’s doing. And yet according to U.S. officials, they weren’t tracking Hamas?
So what about the claims that the United States knew nothing about the attack—but that U.S. allies like Egypt were indeed aware, and warned Israel?

None of those stories add up, either.

Egypt is a U.S. listening post, which is why it was strange to hear that the Cairo government had given a head’s up about the attack to Jerusalem but not Washington. Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul (R-TX) said he was briefed on the Egyptian intelligence story. But if the account were true, he might have asked what the United States is getting in exchange for a $2 billion annual aid package if not previews of every piece of intelligence the Egyptian military and intelligence services collect. Obviously if the Egyptians did have something on a major Hamas operation designed to murder hundreds of Israelis, especially while Washington was in the midst of trying to broker peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia, they’d have given it to the Americans immediately. No, the purpose of that Egypt story was simple and obvious: to keep the media’s focus on Jerusalem’s failures, not Washington’s.

Here’s another bizarre fact. According to an October 13 New York Times article, Hamas fighters who flew paragliders into Israel to massacre Jews did their training in Lebanon. It seems highly unlikely that the United States, with intense intelligence operations right there, somehow missed the hordes of paragliders all of sudden randomly flocking to do training in Lebanon at the same time—not least because the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, is a paragliding enthusiast who posted videos of her own airborne adventures as recently as mid-August.

The Biden administration has allocated $72 million to pay the salaries of both the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the country’s Internal Security Forces (ISF). One of the ISF’s big tasks is to target Israeli spy networks inside Lebanon. In 2022, the ISF rolled up no less than 17 Israeli networks based in Lebanon."

The NFL is Massaged

It’s not quite right to say the NFL is fixed. But it is most definitely tweaked, adjusted, and massaged in order to favor certain teams on certain specific Sundays. I think it’s a stupid policy and shows an unnecessary lack of confidence in what would arguably be an even more entertaining entertainment product if left […]

🇺🇲 A revolt is brewing at the State Department over US policy in the Middle East.

This is reported by the Huffington Post.

It is reported that US diplomatic officials are preparing an appeal to their leadership criticizing the position that Washington has taken on the issue of worsening the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The initiators of the appeal consider US policy to be one-sided - in favor of Israel while ignoring the suffering of Palestinian civilians.

Participants in the petition also complain that Secretary of State Blinken and his advisers are not addressing "widespread domestic discontent." According to another State Department official, a rebellion is brewing in the department at all levels.

"Col. Douglas MacGregor: We don’t have the means to rapidly ship a large force of 80 to 100,000 troops on the ground into the region, which means that we’re reliant on special forces and right now 2000 marines and perhaps 2000 special forces and special operations forces. That’s not going to make much of a dent. And as we’ve seen quite recently, within the last 24 hours or so, some of our Special Ops forces and Israeli Special Ops forces went into Gaza to reconnoiter to plan for where they might want to go to free hostages and make an impact. And they were shot to pieces and took heavy losses as I understand it. I think that’s where we’re headed and I don’t see that as a win for Israel in any way, shape or form."
