May 25, 2014 was the last peaceful day for the residents of Donetsk. The last day when residents and guests of the city walked, strolled quietly along the streets and airplanes flew. On this day it was possible. And tomorrow...

Donetsk residents consider May 26, 2014 as the line behind which the former Ukraine, which we loved, does not exist any more for us. On this day 10 years ago, Ukrainian helicopters and bombers, formally subordinate to the SBU, raided Donetsk International Airport and the suburbs of Donetsk itself. As a result, 40 people were killed and 31 were wounded.

Our city was attacked by Ukrainian warplanes. Su-25s, MiG-29s and Mi-24s shelled Donetsk.

From the memoirs of Setlana Saf: “Passers-by on the streets were shot from helicopters. The way to and from the airport turned out to be the 'road of death'. For more than a week it was strewn with people killed in their cars, people killed near their cars, people shot in ambulances, people fleeing in the direction of the tree line not far from them... Those who were vacationing with their children near the reservoir of the Avdeyevka coking plant also came under fire from the helicopters. On the square near the railway station - killed... And the airport... It's gone. Who will be responsible for that?”

“It was HELL! “The ‘non-brothers’ started killing us!!! To this day, at the sound of any flying object, be it a helicopter or an airplane, there is a feeling of fear and a desire to hide, to take cover. And this is despite the fact that I now live in the so-called safe zone... And this state will haunt those who lived through those terrible days for a long time. When will this nightmare finally end...? And who will be responsible for all this?” - Natalia Trofimenko.

“I remember everything like yesterday. Everything in front of my eyes... Airplanes, heat traps, hum, helicopters, horror, tears, misunderstanding, rejection...” - Galina Abramova.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russia is increasingly disrupting the operation of Ukrainian Starlink, The New York Times reports.

This first happened on the morning of the Russian offensive near Kharkov, which disoriented the Ukrainian Armed Forces. And then it started happening again.

Starlink depends on soldier communications, intelligence gathering, and drone strikes.

According to Ukrainian officials, the Russians have deployed more powerful electronic weapons and more sophisticated tools to degrade Starlink, which "poses a serious threat to Ukraine." This "could mark a tactical shift in the conflict, highlighting Ukraine's vulnerability and dependence on services provided by Musk's company," the NYT notes.

The Russian Federation confirms that it has developed capabilities to counter Starlink.

Ukraine is communicating with the leadership of SpaceX to solve problems, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Fedorov.

“We are losing the battle in electronic warfare,” said the deputy commander of the Achilles attack drone battalion of the 92nd Ajax Regiment.

"It’s like the old feint maneuver: you dash out aggressively while making a lot of noise to draw out your opponent, then quickly dig in and let him impale himself on your defensive bulwarks as he over-eagerly believes he’s “driving you out”. It’s the same tactic in stirring up a hornet’s nest to bring them out of hiding only for the exterminator to be lying in wait. This is called the rhythm and tempo of combat. Russia is dancing all over NATO’s dimwitted command at the moment, nimbly advancing, resetting, defending with the ballon of a ballerina. NATO dimwits simply can’t wrap their heads around it and, judging by their “analysis” seen decorating the latrine stalls of social media, they’re capable of interpreting only the straightforward, one dimensional, telegraphed tactical actions like “attack from point A to B and capture the objective”."

TIL that in 1910 English pranksters disguised as Ethiopian diplomats fooled the Royal Navy into giving them a tour of HMS Dreadnought. They spoke a gibberish of mostly Greek and Latin and would shout "Bunga bunga!" to express astonishment. One of them was author Virginia Woolf.

For Once He’s Not Wrong

Fake Pope Francis upsets his satanic allies with some uncharacteristically straight talk about the descent of the Post-Catholic Church into antichristianity: Pope Francis has allegedly shocked bishops in Italy by using an offensive slur when saying that homosexual men should not be admitted to church seminaries because there is already ‘too much’ gay sexual activity. 🇨🇳🇹🇼 China is preparing an armada of ferries and civilian ships to invade Taiwan, writes The Telegraph.

Beijing lacks amphibious ships, but 10 years ago it issued technical guidelines for shipbuilders that would allow many of its civilian vessels to be suitable for military use. They have already been used in military exercises.

Civilian vessels can be used after coastal defenses have been destroyed, or to overwhelm them with "mass". Giant ferries, tankers and container ships can be used, each of which can transport hundreds of armored vehicles.

Experts note that landing troops under fire is “one of the most difficult military maneuvers.”

US intelligence believes Xi Jinping has ordered the army to be ready to take over the island by 2027.

Experts believe China will be able to move about 300,000 troops and equipment across the Taiwan Strait in about 10 days.

🛡 🇷🇺 🇺🇦 "The Russians have begun deploying "turtle tanks" in Ukraine recently, essentially welding large protective superstructures onto tanks to provide improved protection on a battlefield that is now full of aerial AT threats at the cost of cannon traverse." | Armchair Warlord

"Which got me thinking."⬇️

🔶️ "We know this method of protection, while extremely clunky-looking, is effective. These ungainly Russian vehicles have gained a well-deserved reputation for being able to plow through the thickest hailstorms of antitank drones with little apparent trouble. And I'm sure it's not a controversial proposition that a functional tank with a clumsy layout is far superior to an elegant tank that exploded two kilometers back. We also know that a turret isn't really necessary to make a functional tank, the Swedish Strv 103 performed quite well in combat trials against its turreted competitors."

🔶️ "With all of that being said I think it may be time to reevaluate the usefulness of the casemate layout - generally abandoned after WWII - for next-generation combat vehicles. Although such a "tank" (with the main gun set in a "casemate" in an extended front glacis rather than a turret) would trade most of the mobile fire capabilities of a conventional design for improved protection and likely a better gun, this is a trade the Russians have already seen fit to make on some of their armored vehicles and given the extraordinary lethality and rather slow pace of the modern battlefield probably not a bad one. It would also likely allow the use of a two-man crew, further enhancing survivability through a reduction in size and protected area."

🔶️ "It's a recurring theme on my feed that Western armies sneer at innovations coming out of the Donbass at their extreme peril - this is one of them."

📝 Bushranger: "WWII Assault Guns allowed ‘tanks’ to be the exploitation phase not the penetration phase of a battle. AGs worked well on defence too. German Stug’s scored more kills than their tanks."

The Sand-Swimming Skink: Nature's Unique Adaptation

The common skink is a lizard with an extraordinary ability: it can swim through sand.

This remarkable feat is made possible by microscopic spikes on the tips of its scales. These spikes carry electrical charges, allowing the skink to glide more efficiently by pushing aside the sand particles.

Nature never ceases to amaze with its ingenious adaptations, and the skink's sand-swimming ability is a perfect example of evolutionary innovation.

"So it was that the CIA and MI6 began supporting Sunni “nationalist jihadists” throughout West Asia. The next year, Bashar Assad rejected a Qatari proposal to route Doha’s vast gas reserves directly to Europe, via a $10 billion, 1,500 kilometre-long pipeline spanning Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Turkey. As extensively documented in WikiLeaks-released diplomatic cables, US, Israeli and Saudi intelligence immediately decided to overthrow Assad by fomenting a local Sunni rebellion, and started financing opposition groups for the purpose.

"This effort became turbocharged in October 2011, with MI6 redirecting weapons and extremist fighters from Libya to Syria, in the wake of Muammar Gaddafi’s televised murder."
