"Schroedinger’s Cat is one of those concepts with which midwits are enamored because it makes them feel smart. If there was ever a certain bet in human history, it is that The Big Bang Theory, and every other television show that features a “smart” character, will eventually mention it because it is one of the few things that people of modest intelligence think they understand about post-Newtonian physics.

Schroedinger invented his now-ubiquitous metaphor concerning the cat of indeterminate mortality in order to point out the fundamental stupidity of the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics. The cat is not both dead and alive simply because the observer doesn’t know its state, the cat is either dead or alive regardless of the observer’s knowledge of that state. The metaphor is, and always was from the start, an obvious reductio ad absurdum, but modern scientists are so philosophically and logically incompetent that they took it as a literal explanation of the theory.
