“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” - The Fellowship of the Ring

The Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem issued a joint statement yesterday expressing grave concern over Israel’s announced plans to take control of Gaza City, warning that mass evacuations and military preparations signal an imminent offensive. They report that evacuation orders have already been issued for several neighborhoods in Gaza City, accompanied by heavy bombardment causing further destruction and death.
The Patriarchates emphasize that their compounds—the Orthodox compound of St. Porphyrius and the Holy Family compound—have sheltered hundreds of civilians since the war’s outbreak, including elderly people, women, children, and people with disabilities cared for by the Sisters Missionaries of Charity. “Leaving Gaza City and trying to flee to the south would be nothing less than a death sentence,” the statement declares, explaining why clergy and nuns have decided to remain and continue caring for those seeking refuge.
The Patriarchates call for an immediate end to the violence, stating “There is no reason to justify the deliberate and forcible mass displacement of civilians.” They appeal to the international community to act to end what they termed a “senseless and destructive war,” while also calling for the return of missing people and Israeli hostages. The statement concludes with a prayer for conversion of hearts, “so that we may walk in the paths of justice and life, for Gaza and for the whole Holy Land.”

"Churchianity is the systematic subordination of Christian doctrine to the prevailing ideology of social justice. It is the elevation of worldly concerns above spiritual ones, the replacement of timeless Biblical authority with the dynamic mainstream Narrative, and the transformation of the Church from a beacon of eternal truth into an echo chamber for Earthly politics. Most damning of all, it represents the complete inversion of Christianity’s fundamental premise: instead of being in the world but not of it, Churchianity insists on being entirely of the world while maintaining an increasingly unconvincing veneer of theological legitimacy.
"Churchianity is not just another in the long line of traditional doctrinal disputes. This is apostasy wearing a clerical collar, heresy draped in liturgical vestments, and blasphemy proclaimed from ten thousand pulpits every Sunday morning. The tragedy is not that wolves have entered the sheepfold—Jesus Christ himself warned us they would come. The tragedy is that the sheep now bleat in self-righteous pride as they are led astray by those who seek to destroy them."

"A chemistry professor trying to heat cartilage with electricity made a mistake that could change eye surgery. Michael Hill at Occidental College accidentally used too little current in his experiment—and stumbled upon a discovery that might replace LASIK with a gentler treatment that reshapes corneas without ever cutting the eye.
"The discovery may offer hope for the millions of people living with poor vision who want an alternative to glasses and contact lenses but are wary of LASIK’s risks. While laser eye surgery is generally successful, it involves cutting into the eye and can cause complications including dry eyes, vision problems, and in rare cases, severe side effects."

“We want to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We don’t want Russia to take over the whole country,” US Vice President J.D. Vance told USA Today.
“We want the killing to stop, and we believe the war has reached a point where the Russians, by continuing to fight, are achieving nothing. And the Ukrainians are achieving nothing either. The best outcome for everyone, including the United States, would be to stop the killing and bring this issue to a peaceful resolution.”

Finland plans to resume the use of anti-personnel mines from January 2026 — Yle.
“From January next year, we will begin developing a plan for the earliest possible return to the use of anti-personnel mines to strengthen our defense system,” said Riku Mikkonen, inspector of the country’s engineering forces.
Anti-personnel mines were phased out in 2012 when the Ottawa Convention came into force. Finland withdrew from the treaty in July, and the six-month waiting period for withdrawal from the mine ban ends on January 10.
