"A chemistry professor trying to heat cartilage with electricity made a mistake that could change eye surgery. Michael Hill at Occidental College accidentally used too little current in his experiment—and stumbled upon a discovery that might replace LASIK with a gentler treatment that reshapes corneas without ever cutting the eye.

"The discovery may offer hope for the millions of people living with poor vision who want an alternative to glasses and contact lenses but are wary of LASIK’s risks. While laser eye surgery is generally successful, it involves cutting into the eye and can cause complications including dry eyes, vision problems, and in rare cases, severe side effects."

“We want to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We don’t want Russia to take over the whole country,” US Vice President J.D. Vance told USA Today.

“We want the killing to stop, and we believe the war has reached a point where the Russians, by continuing to fight, are achieving nothing. And the Ukrainians are achieving nothing either. The best outcome for everyone, including the United States, would be to stop the killing and bring this issue to a peaceful resolution.”

Finland plans to resume the use of anti-personnel mines from January 2026 — Yle.

“From January next year, we will begin developing a plan for the earliest possible return to the use of anti-personnel mines to strengthen our defense system,” said Riku Mikkonen, inspector of the country’s engineering forces.

Anti-personnel mines were phased out in 2012 when the Ottawa Convention came into force. Finland withdrew from the treaty in July, and the six-month waiting period for withdrawal from the mine ban ends on January 10.
