Amazon took over Book Depository as a subsidiary for distribution, now they're closing it. Amazon took over Abe Books, and I can expect the same. Amazon is the Bertrand de Juvenel model of power applied international distribution par excellence.

Wordery is still an independent book distributor without Amazon affiliation as far as I know, but there's only so long that independent book distributors can hold out until they are consumed by the centralised beast of Amazon.

This is the beginning of the end of being reasonably able to trust that food is not adulterated.
This has happened numerous times in the past and was countered by regulations and inspection agencies.
What happens to a society when these agencies are or might have been captured?
Trust is destroyed.
You may want to consider how you would source food in a setting in which you no longer trust the authorities or corporates.
