Phoenix Union High School District is indulging in fear-based messaging and political signaling about federal immigration enforcement—offering online learning as a workaround instead of reinforcing stability, in-person instruction, and the rule of law—while claiming it’s all about “support.” That posture undermines parental confidence and distracts from academics, and it looks even more reckless given the district’s own data: enrollment is already in high-risk decline, down 5.32% year-over-year and 11.66% over four years (from 34,661 students in FY2022 to 30,618 in FY2026). Rather than fixing the basics—attendance, instruction, & trust—the superintendent, union voices, & board members amplify anxiety & normalize avoidance of school; meanwhile their student count keeps falling.
