At his trial, he refused to give up the writers of the issue, proclaimed it completely indefensible, said that he would — if he were still a young militant — avoid the trial and simply throw loose change at the judge, and threatened to have someone testify about masturbation for three hours.
His punishment was 300 francs, a couple thousand dollars in today’s money. He never paid the fine.
