Why you shouldn't trust Discord
This is an article, rather than a video, but I feel that it's still very relevant as a lot of breadtube uses Discord, with no alternative ways of accessing their communities (IRC, XMPP, Matrix, etc bridges).
https://cadence.moe/blog/2020-06-06-why-you-shouldnt-trust-discord
I'm willing to offer whatever technical help I can provide to anyone who seriously wants to move their communities off of Discord, including transition plans away from Discord and teaching moderators how to use the new system. I'll also try to help individuals who want to increase their personal privacy.
I once heard someone say that surveillance capitalism's effects are not unlike that of climate change's effects, in that by the time people start to see the biggest consequences of it, it will be too late for those affected by it. However, unlike climate change, individuals at least have the ability to reduce how much surveillance capitalism affects them long term. People change over time, and the longer you spend away from services that mass gather your data, the less relevant old data becomes.
