▪️On 3 August 2014, ISIS attacked the Shengal region and tried to eradicate one of the world's oldest religious communities: the Ezidis

▪️1000s were murdered, hundreds of thousands displaced. Over 7,000 women & children were abducted, forcibly converted and sold as sex slaves

▪️Still, 2,700 are missing

▪️The Shengal massacre resulted in one of the most systematic and violent femicides in history

🔆 Despite few weapons, the people faced down the violence of IS and waged a strong resistance. Primarily the women organized themselves

🔆 With the defense of Shengal they saved countless lives & laid the ground for the declaration of the Ezidi self-administration in 2015

🦚 The lesson from Shengal is clear: Only with self-organization, solidarity & radical resistance can we overcome patriarchal violence and oppression

🕊 Only with the self-defense of all peoples in the Middle East can we end the massacres and bring peace and democracy.

📺 Dahûrandin: Rêber Apo about the armed struggle in Kurdistan (August 15, 1995)

On the 15th of August 1995, the 11th anniversary of the armed struggle of the PKK, Rêber APO spoke about the achievements of the armed struggle, the Revolution in the Middle East and the need for an intense struggle to achieve Freedom. Through the armed struggle the Kurdish identity and the Kurdish people could no longer be denied. Today the Turkish state is forced to negotiate.

"Dahûrandin": In Kurdish (Kurmanji), "dahûrandin" can mean "to research, investigate, or analyze" something in depth. This usage applies when someone is systematically examining a subject, looking into details, or studying something carefully.
Rêber APO (Abdullah Öcalan) conducted a lot of important research particularly on culture, society, and civilization.

In his speech for the 15th of August, 1995 Rêber APO (Abdullah Öcalan) describes the Revolution of the PKK as a Revolution for all peoples, in the Middle East and the World. He was calling for support not only as solidarity as a way of liberating all the peoples: "Support us, and those who are liberated will be you."

Struggle with and without arms: The 15th of August and its meaning in the current phase

Following the proposal of Rêber APO (Abdullah Öcalan) expressed in his message released on February 27, 2025, the central committee of PKK held its 12th congress. On May 12, 2025, it took the decision to dissolve the party and halt the armed struggle. On the occasion of the 42th anniversary of the beginning of the armed struggle on August 15, 1984, we want to share with you our analysis about its importance in the Kurdish people‘s history and the meaning behind the decision to interrupt it regarding the current dynamics between international hegemonic and democratic forces.
