To be clear, this award has been planned since at least 2022. I think the timing is an interesting coincidence; USAF contracting officers are not privy to what the White House & Pentagon are leaking to Politico. There are big implications for Ukraine though. Higher production levels mean the USAF will be more willing to part with their existing inventory.

'We haven’t seen a substantial move [of Russian troops] just yet, and we can’t tell whether that’s just because they’re only just getting started moving forces, or whether they just don’t have the forces to move,' said one of the sources familiar with US intelligence."
