Fumo e incenso a Shimo-Kitazawa
La pioggia batteva sull’asfalto come dita nervose su una tastiera esausta. Nella periferia stanca di Tokyo, lontano dai neon del centro e dagli odori troppo puliti dei quartieri residenziali, tra un pachinko spento e un konbini abbandonato c’era un bar dimenticato dal tempo. Si chiamava Himitsu, ma nessuno lo trovava per caso. Il bancone era di legno scrostato, l’illuminazione gialla come un ricordo stinto, e nell’aria, un misto di saké e incenso bruciato. Chi vi entrava non cercava compagnia, ma rifugio.
Io, Bruno Baraffa, vi entrai come un uomo che ha letto troppi manga e visto troppi anime per distinguere ormai il reale dal riflesso. Sedevo all’angolo più buio, con un bicchiere di whisky torbato davanti e un taccuino pieno di appunti sull’infanzia come merce e frasi taglienti come vetri. Di fronte a me, Miyajima Reiji, autore del best-seller Rent-A-Girlfriend, soppesava ogni sorso di shōchū davanti con l’aria pensierosa di chi ha venduto milioni di copie, ma ha perso qualcosa per strada. Il successo su Weekly Shōnen Magazine non l’aveva salvato dalla vertigine del pensiero.
Accanto, il Maestro Dorontabi. Non era un hikkikomori, almeno non più. Era un illustratore. Famoso per il suo tratto irregolare, evocativo, capace di fondere realismo, eros e sogno. L’arte sua aveva definito l’identità visiva di Blue Archive, quel gioco di Nexon che sembrava una galleria di archetipi in lotta con la modernità. Le sue illustrazioni non si limitavano a ornare, raccontavano. A ogni occhiata, un mondo; a ogni personaggio, un’interiorità sospesa.
Tre uomini con troppe idee e poca fede nel futuro.
Parlammo di ragazze. Di icone. Di ferite mascherate da personaggi.

Miyajima guardò il suo bicchiere. «Chizuru è il simulacro dell’ideale. Bella, educata, forte, eppure imprigionata nel ruolo che ha scelto: quello della ‘fidanzata perfetta’. A vent’anni, si divide tra attrice e ragazza in affitto, ma ogni ruolo è una maschera che si incolla all’anima. Recita l'amore, ma sotto c'è l'ambizione, il dolore, il rifiuto di mostrarsi fragile. Vuole mostrarsi come la donna forte del XXI secolo, ma è chiusa in uno schema che non può più abbandonare».
Dorontabi annuì. «La sua forza è nel contenimento. Non dà mai tutto. Rimane irraggiungibile, perché è l’idea dell’amore, non la sua realtà.»
«Ruka invece è il desiderio che reclama attenzione.» proseguii. «Impulsiva, 17 anni, il cuore che per la prima volta batte troppo forte, letteralmente e metaforicamente. Rappresenta l’amore che non vuole negoziare: invadente, ma autentico.»
«Autenticità che però soffoca,» disse Miyajima. «Ruka ama, ma vuole possedere. Non capisce che Kazuya è attratto da ciò che non si può avere. Da ciò che resta distante.»
«Sumi, invece, è silenzio che parla,» disse Dorontabi. «La ragazza che dice poco, ma ascolta tutto. L’insicurezza fatta carne. È il personaggio che cresce, ma in punta di piedi. Non vuole essere più vista come una fidanzata, ma come persona.»
«E infine Mami,» mormorai, «l’antagonista travestita da ex. Intelligente, calcolatrice. Il fantasma della relazione tossica. Ma è anche la più onesta: non finge amore. È specchio e abisso.»
«Mami è la società,» aggiunse Miyajima con un ghigno amaro. «Cambia volto, ma non si affeziona mai. È ciò che resta dopo l’innocenza. Tutte ragazze diverse, tutte risposte sbagliate a un vuoto che non si può colmare.»

Il ghiaccio si era sciolto nel fondo dei bicchieri, ma nessuno di noi lo notava. Le parole pesavano più dell’alcol. A un certo punto, Dorontabi sollevò lo sguardo, le pupille immobili sotto la luce tremolante.
«Sapete qual è la più grande menzogna del nostro tempo?» chiese. «Che l’innocenza sia una condizione da superare. Un errore evolutivo da correggere.»
Fece una pausa. Poi continuò.
«In Blue Archive, l’innocenza non è ignoranza: è resistenza. Le ragazze combattono, ridono, si affezionano. Ma non hanno ancora svenduto l’anima al cinismo. Non sono ingenue: sono coscienti. Eppure scelgono di credere, di amare, di proteggere. È una forma di insurrezione esistenziale.»
Miyajima annuì, lentamente. «Chizuru protegge la propria immagine. Le tue ragazze proteggono il mondo.»
Dorontabi tirò una boccata di fumo. «Le protagoniste sono soldatesse dell’anima. In una società che pornografa tutto, persino la fragilità, loro incarnano un’innocenza lucida, volontaria. La mantengono non perché non sappiano, ma perché sanno troppo.»
«Un’innocenza scelta, dunque,» dissi. «Come quella dei santi o dei folli. Una scelta morale consapevole, non istintiva.»
«Esatto,» rispose. «Ogni loro gesto, ogni cura tra compagne, ogni missione, è una forma di opposizione all’algida indifferenza del mondo post-umano. Loro offrono relazioni vere.»
Poi concluse, abbassando la voce:
«E in questo, sono più reali di molte persone in carne e ossa. Perché l’innocenza non è assenza di male. È presenza ostinata di bene, nonostante tutto.»
E lì, tra alcol, fumo e i bicchieri scheggiati, capii che in quel bar parlavano tre uomini di arte come si parlerebbe di ferite: con pudore, ma senza filtri. E nella loro arte, tra carta, pixel e silenzi, si nascondeva ancora un riflesso del vivente. Forse l’ultimo.
