Wieder einmal hält der IWF mit seinen neoliberalen Strukturanpassungsprogrammen ein afrikanisches Land in Geiselhaft. Diese SAPs sind in der Vergangenheit alle gescheitert und haben die jeweiligen Volkswirtschaften geschwächt und die Schuldenlast noch erhöht. Weitere Faktoren für die seit Wochen anhaltenden Proteste in Kenia: Auf Kredit finanzierte und weitestgehend sinnlose chinesische Infrastrukturprojekte, hausgemachte Korruption, die zusammen mit Fehlbesetzungen beim Katastrophenschutz diesen Frühling zu dutzenden Toten durch Überschwemmungen führten. Dies alles vor dem Hintergrund einer durch Corona ausgelösten Tourismuskrise, welche die grassierende Jugendarbeitslosigkeit verschärfte und mittlerweile zu einem erheblichen Braindrain führt (Kenias junge Erwachsene sind übrigens top ausgebildet. Das aber nur nebenbei).
Selbstverständlich machte die durch den Ukraine-Krieg verschärfte Inflation auch nicht vor dem ostafrikanischen Land halt.

A new HIV drug called lenacapavir could potentially cost just $40 a year for each patient if produced as a generic, which is vastly cheaper than its current price of $42,250. This injectable drug, administered every six months, has shown 100% effectiveness in preventing HIV in trials. Campaigners are urging the pharmaceutical company Gilead to allow the production of low-cost generic versions, especially in low- and middle-income countries, which are most affected by HIV. If made widely available, this drug could be a game-changer in the fight against HIV.
India has done it before and sold 1000$ vials for 3$:
