On July 28, 1915, the US invaded Haiti, starting a brutal 19-year occupation of the country. Conducted for selfish economic reasons and racist motives, the US waged two brutal wars against the native population, murdering thousands. American corporations were unable to accept Haitian independence while racist elements in US society, including slave owners, had never forgiven Haitians for launching the first successful Black rebellion against slavery. Good Idea: Natural Reforestation

https://www.conservation.org/press-releases/2024/07/24/new-research-reforestation-is-more-cost-effective-than-previously-understood-study-compares-reforestation-methods

A new study found that reforestation is much cheaper and more effective at removing carbon from the air than we thought, especially if we let forests grow back naturally. This method can capture more carbon for less money in almost half of all suitable areas. By mixing natural regrowth with traditional tree-planting, we can boost carbon removal by about 40%, helping us tackle climate change more effectively and affordably.

“The opportunity for low-cost reforestation appears much more plentiful than previously thought; this suggests reforestation projects are worth a second look by communities that might have prejudged them to be cost prohibitive,” said Busch. “While reforestation can’t be the only solution to climate change, our findings suggest it should be a bigger piece of the puzzle than previously thought.”
