On this day, 1 October 2020 two members of the al-Huwaitat Indigenous tribe in Saudi Arabia were arrested for criticising the Saudi government and its NEOM development project on social media. One of them was detained outside the Fahad Bin Sultan university in Tabuk. Numerous other members of the tribe had also been arrested, harassed and even killed. The ozone layer over Antarctica is healing and could fully recover by 2066, thanks to global action that banned harmful chemicals like CFCs in the 1980s. This year's ozone hole is smaller than usual, partly due to some freakishly warm weather, but the long-term trend is positive. The key lesson here is that when countries come together and commit to solving a problem, big environmental challenges can be tackled. This success shows that for future issues like climate change, international cooperation and sticking to science-based solutions can really make a difference.

Swiss Song of the Day 🇨🇭❤️: here's one collabo of producer Pablo Nouvelle with rapper Nativ, that I mentioned in an earlier post. The song stems from their joint-album "Embrace" released in 2023. Nativ is a swiss-ivorian rapper that shapes the rap scene for almost a decade now. Especially his energetic live performances as part of S.O.S. are legendary. In his songs, he often conveys profound messages with a versatile flow.

Eine häufige Annahme ist, dass eine Reduzierung der angeblichen Überbevölkerung zur Lösung des Klimawandelproblems beitragen würde. Diese Lösung ist aus mehreren Gründen falsch:
1. Komplett menschenverachtend. Aus irgendeinem Grund müssen immer Länder des globalen Südens weniger Kinder kriegen (im besten Fall), oder getötet werden. Warum nicht der Westen?
2. Historisch gesehen sind westliche Industrienationen für die überwältigende Mehrheit des CO2-Ausstosses verantwortlich.
3. Selbst wenn heute Länder wie China oder Indien grössere Anteile am weltweiten CO2-Ausstoss haben, relativieren sich diese Werte wieder, wenn man das pro Kopf ausrechnet. Ein US-Amerikaner verpestet die Atmosphäre immer noch doppelt so stark mit CO2 wie eine Chinesin.
4. Das angebliche Überbevölkerungsproblem löst sich gegen Ende dieses Jahrhunderts von selbst. Grund dafür ist der demografische Wandel (Überalterung der Gesellschaften). Bereits jetzt beginnt sich abzuzeichnen, dass z.B. die chinesische Bevölkerung bald schrumpft.
