The US could see widespread drone delivery services by 2024, as Zipline → secures a rare FAA exemption. With the potential to expand to 15 cities by 2025, Zipline's Platform 2 drone technology promises near-instant delivery of packages.
The fixed-wing aircraft hoovers 300 feet above ground, lowering packages with precision using a tether for delivery onto porches, driveways, and sidewalks. The new system doesn't require a warehouse, and each docking station can be customized for different businesses.
The startup intends to conduct over 10,000 test flights using around 100 new P2 Zips this year.
