Every Project Manager needs a PMP
...if you want to get past the AI gatekeeper in 2026.
I'm watching experienced PMs with decade-long track records get auto-rejected from jobs they could do in their sleep.
Why?
No PMP certification on their resume.
The AI screening tool filtered them out before a human ever saw their application.
So now entry-level PMs are rushing to get certified.
They're checking the box before they've managed a single real project.
Which floods the market with certified PMs who've never recovered an improbable timeline or negotiated a diplomatic solution to a stakeholder war.
Which makes hiring managers lean even harder on the PMP as a filter.
Because if everyone has one, it must matter, right?
Here's the irony:
The PMP became worthless by becoming mandatory.
It's no longer a signal of competence ...it's a toll booth.
The same AI tools we're all supposed to be adopting intelligently are making the laziest possible filtering decision.
Binary credential check...
No context...
No judgment...
My advice? ...get the PMP.
Not because it makes you a better Project Manager, but because you'll be invisible without it.
But don't mistake the checkbox for competence.
Real PM work is what happens after the timeline breaks, the budget shifts, and the stakeholders start fighting (which they always do).
