🇮🇷🇾🇪 Among all the recent attempts made by the Yemeni Ansarallah movement to attack ships in the Red Sea, the raid on the container ship Palatium III, owned by the Swiss company MSC, went almost unnoticed.
The remarkable aspect of this incident was that the Houthis successfully hit the cargo ship with an Iranian ballistic missile. This marks the first recorded instance in modern history of a successful strike with this type of weapon on a moving ship in actual combat conditions.
Some countries expressed interest in developing anti-ship ballistic missiles as far back as the last century. Compared to winged aircraft, these missiles have several advantages, including a much shorter approach time, which reduces the likelihood of detection and interception.
However, technical difficulties have always been a hindrance, as existing control systems could not ensure an accurate hit on a moving naval target. China has made some progress in this area, but it has never applied its developments in a combat situation.
Now, Iran, with the assistance of the Houthis, has demonstrated the practicality of using ballistic missiles successfully against enemy ships at sea. This capability can be used to engage various targets, including US aircraft carrier groups that have dominated the oceans for many decades.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has dropped his refusal to send four-wheel-drive cars and trucks to Ukraine, saying he now supports the idea of giving vehicles to Kiev that would otherwise be scrapped under an environmental program.
Khan revealed his change of course in a letter this week to UK Transport Secretary Mark Harper. The mayor and former UK defense chief Ben Wallace penned the letter, requesting national rules changes enabling Londoners to “donate suitable vehicles to Ukraine through scrappage schemes.”
