Google has announced 7 new features for Android phones, tablets and Wear OS watches.
1) Reading practice with PlayBooks — helps new readers improve their vocabulary and comprehension skills via hearing the pronunciation of unknown words, practicing mispronounced words and receiving feedback in real time. Available on thousands of children's e-books with “Practice” badge.
2) New widgets for Google TV and Finance, and revamped widget for Google News.
3) Commuters in Washington, D.C. and the San Francisco Bay Area can now use their Wear OS smartwatch to tap and ride with their SmarTrip and Clipper cards via Google Wallet.
4) New tiles and shortcuts from Spotify for Wear OS. (Podcasts, Heavy rotation and AI DJ);
5) Google Keep for Wear OS can now add a tile for quick access to a selected note or to-do list.
6) New Emoji Kitchen combos with Shark🦈, Dolphin 🐬 and Whale 🐋 ;

Big leak of Google Tensor 3 processor specs.
Android Authority has published the specs of the processor that the Pixel 8 will be equipped with, thanks to a source inside Google:
• Layout: 4x Cortex-A510 @ 2.15GHz + 4x Cortex-A715 @ 2.45GHz + 1x Cortex-X3 @ 3.0GHz.
• ARMv9 architecture
• Support for Memory Tagging Extensions (MTE) by Arm.
• GPU: Arm Mali-G715, 890MHz. Presumably a 10 core 'Immortalis' variant with ray tracing support.
• Potential support for 8K30 video decoding/encoding in H.264 and HEVC. But this is unlikely to be included in the final device.
• The Pixel 8 will be the first phone to support AV1 to 4K30 encoding.
• The TPU, codenamed 'Rio', will run at 1.1GHz.
• A new second-generation GXP digital signal processor (codenamed 'callisto') with a frequency increase from 975MHz to 1065MHz.

* Fixed system issues that caused unnecessary power consumption in some cases.

Developers who previously installed a preview version of the Android 14 SDK should completely uninstall the previous version and then reinstall the SDK to apply the fix.
* An issue with the system UI sometimes causes the screen to flicker when a video is playing or an app is using in picture-in-picture mode.
* In some cases, video continues playing in the background even after closing an app if the video was playing in picture-in-picture mode when it was closed.
* A video that is playing in picture-in-picture mode stops playing abruptly if the back gesture is used within the PiP settings screens.
* A system issue can sometimes cause the Android System Intelligence service to crash.
* When using a device with a work profile, the Google Play Store app in the work profile hangs or crashes when launched.

Android 14 Beta 3 brings Google's promised lock screen customization. It's all in order:
• Holding down on the lock screen will bring up the "Customize lock screen" button at the bottom.
• Wallpaper and style are now divided into Locked Screen and Home Screen settings.
• There are 9 clock options to choose from, each adapted to the AOD. You can also choose their color and brightness, as well as whether they are dynamically sized or small (in a single line on the top left).
• Available lock screen shortcuts include : None, Do not disturb, QR code scanner, Smart home control, Silent, Camera and Flashlight.
• A selection of lock screen shortcuts options is also available in the locked screen system settings.

Announced as part of the June Android Feature Drop, Google is rolling out an updated widget design along with an app update to version 5.82.
• The 2x2 "Quick view" widget shows you one particular news story with a "Full coverage" button.
• The "List view" widget shows you the headlines as a list, with a "More news for you" button at the end to open the "For you" tab.
When you resize, one widget flows into the other, so you don't need to pull out any particular one, just change its occupied space.

In December 2020, Google launched a new Google Photos feature that automatically gave your photos a cinematic effect, creating a three-dimensional representation of the scene. A year later, the company updated algorithms so that machine learning filled in parts of the background behind the object.
Until now, however, users had no way of creating cinematic photos themselves. You should have been lucky enough for Google Photos to create a photo with a cinematic effect. But that's about to change.
