Is this our first look at the new remote for an upcoming Chromecast with Google TV refresh?

I found a video showcasing the new remote in the latest Android TV 14 beta.

The video shows an outline of a remote that bears resemblance to the current CCwGT remote, except that it has four large round buttons on the left, two large round buttons and a third large oblong button on the right, and a new⭐️button.

Attached to this post is a still image from the video. And for comparison, I also attached a photo of the current remote for a Chromecast with Google TV (HD).

If you're wondering what that new⭐️ button might be for, I previously discovered that Android TV 14 will add "magic button" customization settings that will let you choose whether pressing the button will "open a favorite app" or "view and switch inputs for TV or other devices".

Google hasn't confirmed that a new Chromecast is in the works, but 9to5Google reported back in January, based on evidence seen within the Google Home app, that a new device was in the works.

Android 14 QPR1 Beta program 'will kick off the week of September 18th'.

Android 14 isn't out yet, but Google has already announced the beta test start date for the first Quarterly Platform Release, which is due for release in December. Android 14 QPR1 Beta 1 will include the latest bug fixes and stability and performance improvements. And here are a few warnings:

❗️If you don't want to participate in the Android 14 QPR1 beta testing, you need to exit the beta program by September 18. When you do, you'll receive an update notification with a downgrade to Android 13 with data loss. Don't apply it until Android 14 (UP1A) is officially released.

❗️If you exit the beta test now, updating to stable Android 14 (UP1A) (when it comes out) will not erase your data.

❗️If you upgrade to the Android 14 QPR1 beta, the next opportunity to leave the beta without losing your data won't come until December.

Google has announced the Automatic App Archiving feature. Auto-archive allows you to automatically free up to 60% of the space occupied by rarely used applications, without deleting the applications themselves and the user's personal data from the device.…
Google Play starts rolling out the "Automatic App Archiving" feature.

This feature allows you to free up memory space when you run out of it by automatically archiving rarely used apps.

Previously, to enable the app archiving feature, you had to try to install an app when your phone ran out of free space. Now you can enable it in Play Store settings in the "General" section, and archived apps can be found on the Manage Apps & Devices page under the new "Archived" chip.

Read more about this feature from a previous post.

Google Photos will soon add support for Android 14's native Share sheet.

One of the key changes in Android 14 is a new system share sheet where app developers can embed their own shortcuts. The first Google app to get support for this feature was Google Chrome, and Google Photos is next in line.

Android 14 share sheet will replace the current app bottom sheet, and it will include a preview of the image(s) or video (with a video icon) with 4 shortcuts from Google Photos underneath:

Create Link
Send in Photos (in the Google Photos Conversations)
Add to Album
Create Album

The "Modify" button on the top right allows you to select additional images.

When Google is going to roll this out to all users is not yet known.

Android now shows battery information in settings! You can now go to Settings > About phone > Battery information to see the manufacture date and cycle count of your device’s battery. Not every device will report this info, though.

Sadly, this page doesn’t show the battery stat that I think most of you are interested in: the state of health, ie. the remaining estimated full charge capacity relative to the rated capacity in %.
