Some have said: Tawbah is leaving acts of disobedience – making that change in both his intention and his behavior – and engaging in acts of obedience – making that both his intention and his behavior.

Issue: Concerning a man approaching his wife in her anus: is it ḥalāl or ḥarām?

Answer: Intercourse with a woman in her anus is ḥarām by the Book, the Sunnah, and the statement of the majority of the Salaf and the Khalaf. Rather, it is the lesser form of liwāṭ (sodomy). And it has been established from the Prophet – ﷺ – that he said: “Verily Allah is not shy of the truth: do not approach women in their anuses.” And Allah Most High said: “Your wives are a tilth for you, so approach your tilth however you will” [al-Baqarah: 223].

And the tilth is the place of the child, for tilth is the place of planting and sowing. And the Jews used to say: if a man approaches his wife in her vagina from behind, the child will be cross-eyed. So Allah revealed this verse, and permitted the man to approach his wife from all directions, but in the vagina specifically. Whenever he has intercourse with her in the anus, and she complies, both are disciplined. If they do not desist, they are separated, just as the wicked one is separated from the one with whom he commits wickedness. And Allah knows best.

The Messenger ﷺ said: “Indeed, Allah commands you to treat women well. Indeed, Allah commands you to treat women well, for they are your mothers, your daughters, and your maternal aunts. A man from the People of the Book marries a woman when her hands can barely hold a thread (meaning she is poor and young) and neither of them loses interest in the other until they both die in old age.”
