Nikolay Koshelev’s personal exhibition The Moon Pool.Archive, which is currently running at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, presents archive of an artist that Nikolay had invented, Alexander Zilverkhov, who allegedly lived and worked in the Russian Empire at the turn of the 20th century and established a close professional relationship with the legend of the Russian Ballet Seasons in Europe, Sergei Diaghilev. The exhibition turns the museum hall into a theatrical space, which refers the viewer to the aesthetics of the Russian Seasons.
«The Moonpool.
Nikolai, rooting his works in Russian Symbolism, has throughout his creative career worked towards showing his art in the State Museum alongside the key representatives of that movement – Mikhail Vrubel, Konstantin Somov and Viktor Borisov-Musatov. Finding himself with them in the same halls and in the same space, Koshelev asked himself a question: “What next? What do you do if your works have already found their place? Is that really the end of the road for them?”
