Journalism Fellows Immerse in International Relations at the Gorchakov Fund 🧐

Our journalists spent an enriching day at the Gorchakov Fund, where they were treated to a series of insightful meetings.

🔜 The fellows kicked off the day by meeting with Maxim Suchkov, the head of the Institute for International Studies at MGIMO University.

He delved into Russia's stance on various geopolitical issues and the foreign policy of the United States. Suchkov placed particular emphasis on the ongoing rivalry between Russia and the United States, highlighting the challenges in their relationship. Additionally, he shed light on the significant roles played by China and India in modern international relations, discussing their influence on global dynamics and the shifting balance of power.

🔜 Next, the participants had the privilege of engaging with Dmitry Polikanov, the deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo.

The speaker provided valuable insights into the activities and initiatives of the Russian Houses, particularly focusing on their work in the Middle East.

The day continued with the presentations of the Gorchakov Fund and the Primakov Center, offering an overview of their missions, projects, and contributions to the field of international relations and journalism.

Exciting times lie ahead for our fellows as they gear up for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) next week. As Russia's largest economic event, SPIEF will provide them with a platform to put their skills into practice and cover significant discussions in the world of business and economics.

✏️ a series of thematic lectures from leading experts at Novosibirsk State University devoted to the integration of AI in medicine, photonics, and smart city development.

🔍excursion to the Academpark technopark where cutting-edge research is being translated into real-world innovations.

🫀visite to the Institute of International Tomographic Center, where they got an inside look at how modern Russian technologies are actively improving people's health and wellbeing.

But it hasn't been all work and no play. The fellows took a refreshing break with an excursion through the beautiful botanical gardens, where the wonders of Siberian nature intertwine with the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

Now, as they continue to tackle their capstone projects, we can't help but wonder – what other surprises and discoveries await our fellows?

Our Russian studies fellows had long been hoping and requesting that we arrange a meeting with the renowned Professor Vladimir Karasik – and we made it happen for them!

Professor Vladimir Karasik is a towering figure in the field of linguistics and cultural studies. Over the course of his illustrious career, Karasik has authored over 400 academic publications, including numerous monographs and textbooks that have become essential reading for students and scholars around the world. His pioneering work has explored the intricate relationships between language, personality, social interactions, and cultural frameworks.

In fact, the participants were so enthralled that they could hardly bear to let their new mentor go, hoping to extract every last bit of wisdom and advice from him.

What a day our journalists had yesterday at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum! 🤩

As they gear up for Day 3, let's recap the action.

Over 15 interviews were knocked out with some major players, including Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Egyptian Minister Hala Helmy El-Said, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, and former Somali Foreign Minister Fauzia Yusuf Haji Adam.

They also grabbed face time with ambassadors from Syria and Brazil, plus religious figures like Mufti Albir Krganov and cultural heavyweights like designer Artemy Lebedev.

Not a bad haul for a day's work! Our crew is locked and loaded for more exclusive access and insights. But the excitement is just getting started with Russian President Vladimir Putin taking the stage today.⚡️
