📰 Japan's Fair Trade Commission published a 119-page guide to the Mobile Software Competition Law, which will go into effect on December 18.
👨💻 Apple also has to create a firewall that will prevent their own teams from accessing and using sensitive developer data when creating competing products, and they'll also have to submit annual compliance reports. Time has been given for implementation no later than January 18, 2026.

📸 Mark Gurman about the fate of the Apple employee caught on the street with an iPhone 17 Pro
📰 If legitimate – Gurman wrote in his recent "Power On" newsletter that it was "likely" an iPhone 17 Pro – it would be a rare example of an unreleased iPhone being captured in the wild.
🥴 Longtime Apple fans likely remember the famous iPhone 4 leak, where an Apple employee left an unreleased test model at a bar, and Gizmodo got a hold of it and published a detailed analysis of the device in 2010.

Since the revelation, there have been questions over whether the Apple employee testing the device will be disciplined for being part of a leak. Let me be clear on that: The testing process seen in the images went as intended, and the employee — and Apple — were basically just unlucky.
There are hundreds of iPhone 17s being actively used around the world right now in stealth cases. It just so happens that a member of the public knew exactly what they were looking at and that the iPhone design is different enough (see the relocated lidar and LED flash) to be noticeable. It’s possible that many of you reading this have seen unreleased Apple devices in the wild without ever realizing it.

And the reason is artificial intelligence.
ℹ️ Cue’s remarks came during the Google Search antitrust remedies trial while discussing how AI has the potential to reshape the tech industry and open the door to new entrants.
Incumbents have a hard time ... we’re not an oil company, we’re not toothpaste — these are things that are going to last forever ... you may not need an iPhone 10 years from now.

🎁 Apple made a 24k gold and glass statue for Donald Trump
📰 At a White House press conference to discuss Apple’s new US manufacturing plans, CEO Tim Cook presented a gift to President Donald Trump: a “unique” piece of glass from iPhone glass manufacturer Corning that’s set in a 24-karat gold base.
🇺🇸 The piece of glass is a large disc with the Apple logo cut into it. On the top of the glass, President Trump’s name is printed. On the bottom, there’s a signature that appears to be Cook’s as well as the message “Made in USA” and the year 2025. The glass was designed by a “former US Marine Corps corporal” who works at Apple, according to Cook. The base “comes from Utah.”

😌 Cook is well known for his ability to foster a relationship with President Trump, and shortly after Trump was elected for his second term, CEOs reportedly looked to replicate Cook’s relationship-building skills. Trump has threatened Apple and other phone manufacturers with tariffs unless they bring manufacturing to the US.

📰 The book by David Pogue an American writer and tech journalist for CBS, has been announced.
On April 1, 1976, two scruffy twentysomethings, both named Steve, founded a startup. Their goal: To bring the revolutionary power of computers to everyone.
Over the next five decades, Apple reshaped the technology and cultural landscapes, introducing the public to breakthroughs like the mouse, laser printing, CD-ROM, WiFi, digital video, home networking, touchscreen phones, and tablets. Jobs’s obsessive eye for detail set the stage for products—Mac, iMac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch—that married advanced technology with beauty, simplicity, and fine design.
Deeply researched and lavishly illustrated in color, Apple: The First 50 Years includes new interviews with 150 key people who made the journey, including Steve Wozniak, John Sculley, Jony Ive, and many current designers, engineers, and executives. The book busts long-held myths; goes backstage for both the titanic successes (450 million iPods, 700 million iPads, 2.2 billion iPhones) and the instructive failures (Lisa, Apple III, MobileMe); and assesses the forces that challenge Apple’s dominance as it enters its second half century.
📆 The book will be released on March 17, 2026, two weeks before the company's anniversary. The book is already available for pre-order. Pogue also promised to go on tour to promote the book.
