🆕 Apple has released new 'betas' for its systems

In addition to iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and visionOS 2 received the update. All of them got the fourth beta versions for developers.

There small changes to a number of features throughout the operating system in this beta, but Apple is continuing to refine existing settings and design choices. So, what’s new for iOS 18 beta 4?

CarPlay Wallpapers

New Light Mode and Dark Mode wallpaper options for CarPlay, and the new wallpaper mirrors the wallpapers that have been added on the iPhone.

Settings
A new way to access iCloud settings in the Settings app. There's now an ‌iCloud‌ option paired with App Store, Game Center, and Wallet. ‌iCloud‌ settings can still be accessed by tapping on your Apple Account and choosing ‌iCloud‌ from that interface.

Camera Controls
There is a new "Controls Menu" option under Preserve Settings in the Camera section of the Settings app, . The Controls Menu preserves the previously used camera tool when expanding the controls menu rather than showing the full list of camera control options when using the Camera app.

Dark Mode/Light Mode Icons
The ‌Dark Mode‌ and Light Mode icons are now appropriately synced to the Light and ‌Dark Mode‌ settings on the ‌iPhone‌ when you use the "Automatic" setting under Customize.

Hidden Folder
Apple has changed the design of the Hidden folder in the App Library. Rather than showing an icon of an eye with a line through it, it is now blanked out app squares, which makes it stand out less.

iPhone Mirroring
This is a macOS Sequoia feature more than an ‌iOS 18‌ feature, but when using ‌iPhone‌ Mirroring with ‌macOS Sequoia‌ beta 4, you can change the size of the ‌iPhone‌ window on your Mac's display.

Control Center
There's a new Control Center toggle for Bluetooth, but it is not yet working. Apple also added a Silent Mode/Mute toggle and an Accessibility Eye Mirroring option.

AssistiveTouch
There are new Type to Siri and Apple Watch Mirroring options available for AssistiveTouch.

Apple Intelligence
It is still continuing to prepare to implement Apple Intelligence in the beta in the not too distant future.

🆕 detail about the iPhone 17 Slim and alleged specifications for the iPhone SE4

Earlier, we reported that the iPhone 17, which is scheduled to be released next year, would not only be the thinnest smartphone from Apple, but also the most expensive.

Now, it has become known that in order to achieve this record-breaking thickness, cameras will be sacrificed, and the phone will only have one module, instead of the two or three that are customary in other Apple smartphones. This will result in a body thickness of only 5 millimeters.

The iPhone SE4, which is expected to launch in spring 2025, will feature a more modern design and an OLED display with 60H support. Its price is estimated to be between $500 and $550.

🤔 Although this information comes from reputable sources such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Ice Universe, it should still be taken with caution.

🐒 A new show coming to Apple TV+, here’s the first trailer

🆕 Yesterday Apple released the first trailer for the new comedy series “Bad Monkey” that will debut soon!

🕺 “Bad Monkey” was created as a partnership between Ted Lasso’s creator, Bill Lawrence, and Vince Vaughan. Vaughan not only stars in the series, but was also its executive producer alongside Lawrence.

But after stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.

📱 Apple TV+ will debut the first two episodes of Bad Monkey on Wednesday, August 14, with weekly releases thereafter. This freshman season of the show will have 10 episodes in total.

🔬 Apple to open a new lab in Shenzhen to test the iPhone, iPad and Vision Pro under extreme conditions

🥼 The new lab in Shenzhen is expected to boost Apple's research capabilities. The new facility will focus on testing new materials and production techniques, ensuring that the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro can withstand extreme conditions, from intense physical activity to harsh temperatures.

📍 The choice of Shenzhen is significant due to its proximity to many of Apple's suppliers. Apple first announced plans for the new lab in March. Despite diversifying its production capacity to other countries like Vietnam and India, China remains a key manufacturing hub for Apple. The new Shenzhen facility is part of a broader expansion, which includes research and development centers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou.

💸 Apple has invested over 1 billion yuan (approximately $138 million) in these facilities.

💬 Two product managers at Apple talking about Smart Script and Math Notes for iPad

👥 Ty Jordan, System Product Manager and Jenny Chen, Engineering Manager at Apple, talked about the making of the new Calculator and why the Smart Script feature is noteworthy.

🧮 Math Notes combines Apple Pencil input with machine learning models right on the device, powered by Apple Silicon chips.

We've made it look like you just write math problems on a piece of paper, and like magic, the device just gives you the solution.

✍🏻 The Smart Script feature is a machine learning model on the device that continuously learns, but also works very fast.

We've taught the system to do a spell check based on what you've written. And over time, the quality of the results and the hints improve as you write more. And also, for example, if you go to a previous paragraph where you had your not-so-great handwriting – we'll do a match to the handwriting that was listed there, rather than trying to replicate what you had in other notes.

📱 The full interview is available on YouTube.

⚙️ Apple set to replace Qualcomm with in-house 5G chips in two 2025 iPhones

Apple has been working on its own cellular modems for years and according to the post on 𝕏 by Ming-Chi Kuo, it seems the company is finally ready to move its 5G chips in-house in 2025.

Apple’s plan is for a phased adoption of its own in-house 5G chips. Rather than switching all new iPhone models to its proprietary modems in 2025, the company plans to use them in only two models:

• the iPhone SE 4, which will release in the spring;
• the new ultra-slim iPhone 17 model that will debut in the fall.

Bringing Apple’s own 5G chips to only two devices means the other new 2025 iPhones will still utilize Qualcomm’s 5G chips, as all modern iPhones up until this point have done.

It makes a lot of sense to only add the new 5G chips to certain iPhone models at first. However, if the iPhone SE 4 gets the new in-house modem in the spring, it will be kind of odd for the high-end iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max to stick with Qualcomm nearly half a year later.

P.S. The Qualcomm Snapdragon modems are a series of 4G LTE, LTE Advanced, LTE Advanced Pro, and 5G NR modems found in many phones, tablets, laptops, watches and even cars. The company develops software, semiconductor designs, patented intellectual property, development tools and services, but does not manufacture physical products like phones or infrastructure equipment.

🤖 Long-awaited Apple Intelligence not to launch in September

📰 Apple Intelligence will miss its initial expected launch date to give Apple more time to fix bugs, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports.

📆 The company now plans to start rolling out Apple Intelligence in software updates by October, arriving several weeks after the launch of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. This means that Apple Intelligence will now effectively be split out of the initial launch of the new software updates. So, that explains why no beta version of iOS 18 can still at least partially try out the new feature.

🔧 The reason for the delay is said to be concern about the stability of Apple Intelligence features and need for developers to have sufficient testing time. Gurman notes that the new release strategy for Apple Intelligence means that the iPhone 16 lineup will likely launch without Apple Intelligence features and require a software update to obtain them at a later date.

🔜 The company is now said to be aiming to have development of iOS 18.0 completed by the end of July.

🗺 Even when Apple Intelligence arrives with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.1, it will be missing aspects such as the overhauled version of Siri that uses on-device data to answer questions and understands what is on a user's screen. These features are expected to arrive in the first half of 2025.

💬 What is the most expected feature of Apple Intelligence for you?

🆕 Apple releases iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 developer beta with the first ‘Apple Intelligence’ features

📱 The new beta is only available on iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs with M1 chips and newer.

⚙️ Inside the first Apple Intelligence features! Users have to join a waitlist from the Settings menu of their device and wait for a notification that it’s ready for them to test new features, including Siri. You can finally see the new animation when the assistant launches, and in the Settings Welcome Screen after successful activation there is an option to switch between voice and text communication, just double tap at the bottom of the display to bring up the keyboard. It works only in English so far and fully functional only in the US.

🤖 The assistant also supports context between queries. But so far there is no integration with ChatGPT or any other AI service. At the same time, the new Siri has an inbuilt Apple Support database and can answer questions about the operation of certain iPhone functions.
