اهمیت آمادگی برای یادگیری بیواسطه از دیگر کشورها:
اول، به دنبال درسی که اخیراً روزگار در مورد اهمیت تسلط بر زبان خارجی بهم یادداد، دنبال فرصت یادگیری زبانی جدید در دانشگاه بودم. در جستوجو برای چنین دورهای، متوجه شدم که یکی از کلاسهایی که بسیار سریع پر میشود، کلاسهای آموزش زبان عربی است. علاوه بر دانشجویان رشتههای زبانشناسی یا زبانهای خارجه، بسیاری از دانشجویان مدرسه سیاستگذاری هم بهعنوان درس اختیاری، در این کلاس ثبتنام میکنند.
دوم، در حین صحبت با یکی از اساتید دانشکده مدیریت که در حوزه شرق اروپا کار میکند، متوجه شدم که برای تسلط بیشتر بر موضوع، زبان روسی را یاد گرفتهاند و منابع دست اول به زبان روسی را مطالعه میکنند.
نکته آموزنده:
اول, این افراد بهجای قناعت بر تسلطشان بر زبان انگلیسی، بهدنبال کسب آگاهی بیواسطه از جامعه هدفشان رفتهاند.
دوم, ممکن است فکر کنید برای ما که جامعه هدف مان مردم ایران هستند, نیازی به یادگیری زبان خارجی نیست. ولی نکته اینجاست که یادگیری از تجارب دیگر کشورها مستلزم توانایی برقراری ارتباط بدون واسطه با آن ها است. تنها با زبان انگلیسی نمی توان از تجربه اصلاح سیاست پولی شیلی (اسپانیولی زبان) یا سیاست حمایت اجتماعی برزیل (پرتغالی زبان) یاد گرفت.

خوب میدانیم که یکی از ضعفهای آموزش عالی در ایران، ضعف ارتباط با خارج از دانشگاهها است. اول یادآوری میکنم که این مسآله تنها محدود به ایران نیست و بسیار جهانشموله.
ماهیت این مشکل بسیار مشابه مسآله «مرغ و تخم مرغه»: این که آیا دانشگاه باید برای ارتباط با صنعت (بازار یا هر مفهوم متناظر) پیش قدم شود یا این وظیفه صنعت (یا بازار) است که برای ارتباط با دانشگاهها اقدام کند.
راهحل مدرسه کندی برای حل این مشکل، عهدهدار شدن نقش «گره اصلی در شبکه ارتباطی» بین دانشجویان و فارغالتحصیلان و مراکز کاری در قالب «کارآموزی» است.
تا جایی که مشاهده کردهام، دانشکده هر سال در پایان ترم اول تحصیلی متنی به سازمانهای مختلف، اعم از سازمانهای بینالمللی (مانند بانکهای بینالمللی، تمام زیرسازمانهای سازمان ملل و امثالهم)، سمنها (از سمنی به بزرگی بنیاد «بیل گیتس» تا سمنی کوچک با ۳ نفر کارمند در اتیوپی) و بخش خصوصی (مانند سازمان مکنزی) ارسال میکند و درخواست میکند که اگر امکان پذیرش «کارآموز» در فصل تابستان دارند، توضیحی در مورد شغل و ویزگی های فرد موردنظر ارسال کنند و سپس دانشکده این آگهیهای دریافتی را در اختیار دانشجویان قرار میدهد.
نکات:
۱- از آنجا که که پیدا کردن سمنها و سازمانهای کوچک باید کاری دشوار باشد، گمان میکنم که سابقاً، دانشکده تنها به سازمانهای بزرگ و شناخته شده درخواست پذیرش کارآموز ارسال میکرده و سپس «فارغالتحصیلان دانشکده» واسط معرفی و ارتباط با سمنهای کوچک شدهباشند.
۲- بسیاری از این کارآموزیها بدون دریافت دستمزد هستند ولی دانشکده هزینههای سفر و زندگی را فراهم میکند.
۳- مشابه همین نامه کارآموزی، برای فارغالتحصیلان دانشکده هم هرساله (فکر میکنم) ارسال میشه و در آن، در مورد محل کار و موقعیت شغلی افراد اطلاعات جمعآوری میشه. سپس به همین افراد، برای پذیرش احتمالی کارآموز، ایمیل ارسال میشه.
در پیغام بعد، متن نامه درخواست پذیرش کارآموز در فصل تابستان را ارسال میکنم.
*درخواست: لطفاً این مطلب را با مسوولین دانشگاه محل تحصیل خود در میان بگذارید و پیگیر اجرای آن باشید.

HKS improves the connection between academic and non-academic worlds by proactively sending a request for accepting “interns” for summer to different organizations around the world. Such organizations could be as large as international banks (IDB, ADB, WB…), large NGOs (Gates foundation) to small 3-personnel NGOs in Ethiopia.
Points:
1- Assuming that finding such small NGOs should be a hard job, I believe that HKS should have started its “networking” by sending messages to large organizations once and smaller ones should be the places that HKS alumni have introduced afterward.
2- The majority of these internships are unpaid, but HKS provides costs of flight and a minimum stipend during internships.
3- HKS proactively sends similar emails to its alumni every year to update its information about the occupation of its graduates. Then it sends such “internship requests” to those alumni/organizations in the following years.

What can an energetic, analytical graduate student do for your organization this year?
As you consider your professional goals for 2019, perhaps a graduate student from the MPA in International Development (MPA/ID) Program can help you achieve them.
Since you’re familiar with the Kennedy School, you probably know that MPA/ID students are hard-working and well-trained, with strong skills in economics, econometrics and data analysis as well as policy writing.
They have several years of previous full-time work experience, typically in international organizations, consulting, government, non-profits, or the private financial sector.
Most of our students are international, and many speak several languages.
MPA/ID students will be available during our summer break, between May 20 and August 16, 2019.
If you would like to hire an MPA/ID student, please send me your
project denoscription by Wednesday, January 9, 2019, if possible. (We will certainly accept proposals beyond that date, but the later it gets, the fewer students will be available.)
I look forward to receiving your reply with a denoscription of the work an intern might perform. It’s a good idea to include a closing date for applications (about 2 weeks past the posting date) so that you can move ahead with your selection process at that time.
The job denoscription should include information on the following:
· your organization
· the project or type of work
· qualifications (languages needed, for example)
· logistics (office location, start/end dates, etc)
· compensation or in-kind assistance, if any
· closing date for applications
When I receive your denoscription, I will forward it directly to the available students (unless you instruct me otherwise), so that they may apply directly.
Demand for our students does exceed supply. Students are most likely to be interested in well-thought-out proposals with enough organizational support to make them feasible. Paid positions are attractive, of course, but in kind assistance (housing, airfare or meals for example) is also helpful. Proposals received by mid-January are more likely to be filled than those received later.
Financial assistance is available for students working with organizations unable to pay them. Students may apply for a small grant to cover travel and living costs through the Kennedy School.

· When an alum is talking with another student, it is appropriate to wait your turn close by. Your presence "hovering" can allow an alum to say "I see another student is waiting, let's continue our conversation at. . . ."
· If an advisor is talking to small group of students, just walk up, wait for a break in the conversation, and join in by briefly introducing yourself
Closing the Conversation
· Thank the alumni for their time
· Express interest in following up if you hope to do so. You might say, "I know you are busy and other people are waiting to speak with you, do you mind if I follow up via e-mail so that we could continue our conversation when it is convenient for you?" (Make sure that you do follow up!)
Potential Questions to Ask
· I read your bio; how did you manage your career post-HKS to be doing such interesting work at [name of organization] now?
· What professional experiences/characteristics and skill sets are valuable in your current role?

فرهنگ کمک مالی به دانشجویان:
یکی از تجربههای جالبم در اینجا، مشاهده افراد یا نهادهایی بوده که متعهد شدهاند سالانه به خرج تحصیل حداقل یک دانشجو کمک کنند. هرچند که حدود نیمی از کمک هزینهها به ملیت یا ملیتهای خاصی محدود شده، در بقیه موارد، عمدتاً بهصورتی کلی از فرد خواسته میشه که در ازای دریافت کمک هزینه، پس از فارغالتحصیل در زمینهای خاص، مانند محیط زیست یا انرژی فعالیت کنه یا به مدتی مشخص پس از فارغالتحصیلی در بخش عمومی/دولتی/سمن کار کنه.
دانشجویان میتوانند چه قبل از دریافت پذیرش و چه حین تحصیل، از کمک هزینه تحصیلی بهره ببرند.
خوب این تجربه با آن چه که در ایران دیدم، بسیار متفاوته. چه بسیار افرادی-عمدتاً شهرستانی- در دوران کارشناسی دیدم که با مشکلات مالی مواجه بودند و بخش بزرگی از فکرشان دغدغه معیشتی بود.

فرهنگ کمک مالی به دانشجویان:
یکی از تجربههای جالبم در اینجا، مشاهده افراد یا نهادهایی بوده که متعهد شدهاند سالانه به خرج تحصیل حداقل یک دانشجو کمک کنند. هرچند که حدود نیمی از کمک هزینهها به ملیت یا ملیتهای خاصی محدود شده، در بقیه موارد، عمدتاً بهصورتی کلی از فرد خواسته میشه که در ازای دریافت کمک هزینه، پس از فارغالتحصیل در زمینهای خاص، مانند محیط زیست یا انرژی فعالیت کنه یا به مدتی مشخص پس از فارغالتحصیلی در بخش عمومی/دولتی/سمن کار کنه.
دانشجویان میتوانند چه قبل از دریافت پذیرش و چه حین تحصیل، از کمک هزینه تحصیلی بهره ببرند.
خوب این تجربه با آن چه که در ایران دیدم، بسیار متفاوته. چه بسیار افرادی-عمدتاً شهرستانی- در دوران کارشناسی دیدم که با مشکلات مالی مواجه بودند و بخش بزرگی از فکرشان دغدغه معیشتی بود.
درخواست: این مطلب را با صاحبین سرمایه مطرح کنید و درخواست کنید که در این امر مشارکت کنند. نمونه فعال در ایران: موسسه حامی علوم انسانی (www.haamee.org)

در مسیر سفر به پایتخت, همسفر یکی از مهاجران میانسال اهل افغانستان به آمریکا هستم.
حین تلفن صحبت کردنش متوجه شدم که همزبانیم و سلام دادم. وقتی فهمید که تازه آمدم ینگه دنیا و غریب هستم, با نگرانی پرس و جو کرد که میدونم کجا میرم؟ جایی برای موندن دارم؟ کسی رو می شناسم واشنگتن؟ ... و تا خیالش از امنیت سفرم راحت نشد, موضوع رو به وضعیت نابسامان اهالی افغانستان در ایران عوض نکرد.
من هم که دفاعی ندارم, از سر ناچاری و با خجالت, از کمپین حمایت از حق دسترسی به خدمات الکترونیکی بانکی و دادن کارت هویت به بچه های دارای مادر ایرانی و پدر خارجی گفتم. ولی خوب چه جای دفاع داشتم برای این حداقل های مثبت بعد از 40 سال همزیستی!
بهم گفت شما همسایگان خوبی نبودید. ما همزبان بودیم, هم دین بودیم, ولی ببین چه سخت افغان ها در ایران زندگی می کنند!
و خوب ... راست می گفت.
درخواست: هر جا شاهد ظلم به افغان ها بودید, ازشان دفاع کنید. دستشان کمتر از شما به جایی بند است.
تا بلکه روزی برسد که همگی مان از حسن خلق مان به خود ببالیم.
