Today is the 503rd anniversary of the Spanish victory over the Aztec Empire at the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, present-day Mexico City, Mexico.

The Spanish forces were led by the Conquistador Hernán Cortés de Monroy y Pizarro Altamirano. His victory resulted in the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire and the establishment of the colony of New Spain, a large expansion for the Spanish Empire.
