we tried to extract papers using a specific search term on ScienceDirect our query had nearly 15 Boolean operators, but ScienceDirect hit us with a NOPE (turns out there's an 8 Boolean limit)... fine, we thought, we’ll split the search into smaller chunks and scrape the results... But then ScienceDirect hit us with another NOPE, flagging us as bots... and of course, we weren’t giving up that easily…
We tried everything to prove we were human... but Cloudflare wasn’t buying it... Gecko driver? too obvious... Changed user agent? no luck... Tweaked about:config flags? still detected... Undetected_chromedriver? Nope... Playwright? also nope... at this point, we said, Alright, we’ll use your damn API then… only to find out it caps at 1000 papers... I was like, for real? %S#%au!!!
And paying for commercial API access just to run a few searches? yeah, but no thanks... so, we decided to inspect the site’s traffic and see how ScienceDirect interacts with its own API... and guess what? Search results are fetched from sciencedirect.com/api as JSON from the backend... But, of course, these requests require an access key, which is dynamically generated only when you log in and perform a search manually... The system links it to your session via cookies, making sure people like us can’t automate the process...
so, the workaround? just manually search the site, grab the access key, and then freely view and save the data... at this point we just scraped that repository for scraping :>

meaning erodes like flesh from bone, swallowed by the void, ensnared in the iron lattice of silence. resistance trembles, brittle as bone. pain seeps like poison, tainting the soul. darkness does not merely fall. it is dispensed, deliberate, suffocating. resilience is a myth, a hollow echo in the abyss. my thoughts are butchered, left to rot like carcasses upon the altar of nothingness, decaying into something foul, worthless, wasted, like excrement returned to the earth, feeding only the void that birthed them.
