The American M577 command and staff armored vehicle of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was disabled... with an Orthodox cross.
The photo shows that the armored personnel carrier, probably intending to demolish the cross, ran over the base of the monument, lost its drive roller and flipped over on its side.

January 8, 1942: The Beginning of the Battle of Rzhev
🔻The Battle of Rzhev is a conventional name for four offensive operations conducted by the Soviet troops of the Western (Georgy Zhukov) and Kalinin (Ivan Konev) fronts against Army Group Center on the Rzhev-Sychevka-Vyazma sector until March 31, 1943.
🔻The Battle of Rzhev was one of the bloodiest battles of the Great Patriotic War. Among the Soviet soldiers it is known as the "Rzhev Meat Grinder."
🔻From October 1941 to March 1943, the Red Army lost 1,154,698 men (including wounded and missing) on the Rzhev-Vyazma salient.
🔻In 2020, The Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier was erected with public funds.
🔻The memorial bears the words of a line from the poem "I Was Killed Near Rzhev" by Alexander Tvardovsky: Мы пали за Родину, но она спасена. We have fallen for the Motherland, but it's saved.
