Does Libby matter?

I started watching Lost and I’m almost at the season three finale. I keep thinking about the reveal that Libby was in the same mental institution as Hurley. Does this actually matter? Right now, it just feels like a pointless addition from the writers’ side.

Biggest problem with the show - Free Will

I love the show despite it's problems and incosistencies, but I can't get over the fact that time travel and Jacob's omniscience mean that our heroes don't really have a choice in anything they do. It ruins so many arcs, especially Ben's who's apparently been destined to be "evil" since he was a boy, which means he's not so much evil as cursed. His choice to let Alex die wasn't really a choice if it was predetermined and part of Jacob's plan. There's no free will and no real morality to be discussed. And what about someone like Boone who apparently was destined to die?

Are there any scenes you can think of that would be dated and kids today wouldn't understand?

Just started my 8th watch and the memories of it coming on the tv originally all came back. Seems like yesterday, seems like forever ago.

Any scenes where something back then doesn't exist anymore or kids today would be like what?!

Help me feel better about the love triangle

Hi spoilers for anyone who hasn’t finished the show - stop reading!

I really wanted Jack to end up with Juliet and Kate and Sawyer to be together in the end. I just think those couples made more sense and had better on screen chemistry. Change my mind so I can be at peace!!

Movie suggestions

I notice a lot of posts asking for similar vibes/tv show suggestions in this sub. But what about movies? What’s your favorite movie if you love Lost? Not really similar and maybe a basic answer but my favorite movie is Interstellar!

Why I've never wanted to re-watch any show except Lost?

For some reason I've never wanted to do a re-watch of any TV show. I think it's something about feeling sad when I see the characters I know that will die or something like that, lol. This doesnt apply to me with movies because, you know, they usually don't even reach 2 hours long, but in a TV show you spend quite a lot of time with the characters and really make a deeper connection with them.

Lost was an absolute LIFE EXPERIENCE for me. I've just re-watched the first episode, and holy, this TV show really has left a mark on me. I even felt a bit of anxiety and spent almost the entire watching with goosebumps, lol. Has something similar has happened to someone else?

The Cork explanation.

In Ab Aeterno, Jacob explains to Richard that The Island functions as a cork which stops "evil" and "malevolence" from spreading out into the world.

That explanation always seemed a little strange to me, because, well... has Jacob actually stopped and looked at the real world? Evil and malevolance have always been and still are huge parts of it, in every place and in every person.

Of course, at other points in the show, during season 6, it is explained that MIB leaving the island would not just mean that he was going to be a corrupting force, but that he would actually kill everyone alive, and that made much more sense.

My reading of that scene may be a little skewed... But did anyone else have that same impression?

Are there any questions about the show that you still haven’t had answered yet? Or anything that still confuses you?

At this point, I think I’ve had all my questions answered but I want to get you guy’s input.

Kate 💰💵💵

Hi guys, first time watcher here. I just finished the series and I’ve got a mixed feelings for this show. I find the ending beautiful, the scene in moving on and the ending with Jack’s last sight with Vincent before he passed. He was fortunate to see and feel the ”alternate life”.

However I’ve got this million dollar question, since Kate was one of the recipients of the oceanic settlement, do you think she will get another settlement from the Ajira 316 too? Lol, sorry have to asked this.

Caught up in discussion about the end again

So, I saw a Disney+ Lost add on Facebook and you can guess what was going on in the comments. Exactly people saying the end was the worst ending of a series ever and theories which were nog making sense at all.

I couldn't help myself and intervened.
How do you people constrain yourselves?

Mib

Anyone else constantly wanted to see mib transform into the smoke so we could see how he does it. Is it easy, hard? Maybe just me, but i would have found that a good scene

Summoning ritual - thoughts?

What's your take on the "smoke summoning ritual" we see Ben perform offscreen in S4, and then again in more detail in S6?

I submit that throughout time, the "black smoke summoning ritual" (either taking place in the temple in the room specifically dedicated to Smoky, or in the little alcove in Dharmaville) was always a method of manipulation used by the smoke monster. It would be an effective tool to manipulate those who seek to ingratiate themselves with him, not to mention the design in Dharmaville is a clear mockery of Jacob's design of the cork apparatus down in the heart of the island. It feels likely to me that the Smoke Monster would not allow himself to be a pet on a leash, summoned at anyone's whim by simply draining the pool. No, I think it was just a way to continue to exploit the minds and desires of the people on the island, just as the chamber below the temple was used by MiB to scan their minds and learn how to exploit their memories and fears while also appearing to them as a deity of sorts.

I feel that if someone did pull that cork, and the Smoke came - like Ben in S4 - it was because the MiB wanted to. He could use that moment to capitalize on a current or future opportunity where the person who pulled the plug was afraid, in need of "divine intervention", etc and would be susceptible to his manipulation. When Smokey comes to take care of the mercenaries, it ends up serving MiB's interests given that Ben ultimately kills Jacob of course. But what if he didn't come? Has Ben or anyone else ever pulled the cork, drained the water and then... nothing?

Obviously Ben believed this ritual worked right away. He doesn't seem to even consider that it might not succeed. But he certainly seems unsettled by the need to use this technique. He keeps it as a final ace in the hole once Widmore "changed the rules" - which raises another question of - when did Ben use this in the past? Obviously he knows what it does in general, yet, it seems clear that there's no way to communicate your specific desire to it, so what if it goes off the rails or misinterprets the situation you present it with? He doesn't seem concerned about that either, other than to advise that everyone run as far away from the mercenaries as possible. Maybe he just knows about it from knowledge handed down from the Widmore/Eloise era, or even earlier? Or maybe it was relayed to him by Richard after the Dharma genocide? I can't imagine Richard would advocate for its use, given his allegiance to Jacob (though we know Richard doesn't seem to know a ton about the mythology of the smoke beyond his own interactions with early in his time on the island).

Obviously whoever built the houses must know about its existence. Did Horace know? Overall - the Dharma folks fear the smoke monster (hence the pylons), and don't seem to be looking for ways to invite him in. The Others seem to have a begrudging neutral-to-negative stance on the smoke, if we're to believe the "security system" concept that we hear Juliet and Ben tell to the survivors - so it would be interesting to know if/when Ben felt compelled to use it in the past, and for what purpose. Did any other Others know this chamber existed?

Do you think the ritual is all, pardon the lousy dad pun here, Smoke and mirrors?

Still the greatest show ever made.

The noscript says it all. I just finished my (14th? Im losing count) rewatch of the show. Just wanted to post about it quickly. It doesnt matter how many times I've watched this show. It still holds up. I know everyone has their own preferences etc. And thats cool. But for me, this is the greatest show ever made. I watch every episode and even though I know everything that happens i still love every moment of it. What makes it better for me is that at certain times in my life I've watched it and felt so many different things depending on what's happening in my life. Juliet and Sawyer reunion scene was always my favourite however after having kids I watch the Claire reunion scene and it hits me so hard her being reunited with her son. I honestly do not think there will be a show that ever takes its place in my heart. Respond as you want but if you feel like it give me some of your favourite moments/episodes. I can expect many to say The Constant with the phone call between Penny and Desmond. That scene alone to me may be one of the best and most emotional TV scenes I've watched.

Which episode do we see Jack get prescribed benzos?

The episode where he is in the hospital and he starts seeing his dead father and then freaks out. He asks another doctor to prescribe Clonazepam. Then he goes home and he gets into a fight with Kate over Sawyer, then chugs down his new RX with a beer. I don't know if this is season 4 or 5 since they all have flash forwards.
