Re-watched lost for the first time since the finale airing.

I was one of the few people who liked the finale upon first viewing, I was a teenager then.

Now that I’ve rewatched it as an adult (with my partner, who was seeing it for the first time), my final verdict is that I freaking LOVED the finale! We were literally crying our eyes out. Having lost my father at about the same age as Jack in the show also hit me so hard this time.

All the deeper and inherent meanings that were present, and honestly more obvious than people gave them credit for at the time, hit exponentially harder now. Watching it after having gone through life, love, loss, losing family, heartbreak, questions of fate and faith, and moments of crisis made everything feel so much more potent. I genuinely can’t understand what people were complaining about, not just with the finale, but with Season 6 as a whole.

Is it the best season? Not for me. But I don’t see it as subpar compared to the others, and it’s far from the “worst” season, if there even is a bad season of Lost.

As an avid reader, the series makes far more sense to me when viewed as a piece of literature. The ending feels like a true resolution rather than a contrived twist or a last-minute attempt at shock value for the sake of “water-cooler talk.”

That’s why all the original criticism about the show “not explaining things,” or the persistent misinterpretation that it was all “just a dream,” feels so unwarranted. In hindsight, it almost seems like a precursor to today’s CinemaSins-style, plot-hole-obsessed criticism that prioritizes technical accounting over thematic meaning.

I think I can finally say this: Lost is my favorite TV show of all time.

Where do I go from here

I finished the series finale a few days ago and still don’t have words to say how much this show and its characters have touched me. To put it simply, I feel like this show, and Jack’s character especially, is something I needed at this point in my life. Having finished the story, I can’t help but feel like there is so much more I need to learn and understand to take the show’s lessons/themes and apply them so I can lead a happier and healthier life.

Has anybody else felt this way after watching the show? If yes, how did you move forward? My first instinct is to try and find insights from the writers and actors about the choices/actions these characters make, but I don’t know where to find something like this if it’s even out there.

If anybody has any advice or insights I’d really appreciate it.

Kate crowd boos

First time watcher here, so maybe my opinion will change.
Kate is annoying me. One moment she’s a badass, as soon as she’s around Sawyer/Jake she’s a femme fatale with tears streaming down her face.
I saw another post from a while ago saying they didn’t understand the Kate-hate; the next statement was about being physically attracted to her character. I figure that’s where a lot of her favor comes from.
She’s worse than Walt in my eyes. At least his irrationality stemmed from being a parent in survival mode. She’s just chaotic sometimes. I’m ending Season 3 and she hasn’t made sense or been much help in a while.

How guilty do you think Walt’s stepdad felt when he saw Oceanic 815 disappeared?

I know he was afraid of Walt, but still, when news of the plane hit, he must have felt like utter shit. Probably blamed himself for their deaths.

Randomly got thinking about this today and wish we’d gotten a scene of him reacting to the news.

Seriously though he must have felt so guilty, since he was literally the only reason either Walt or Michael was on that plane.

Hey everyone,
I’ve been wanting to watch LOST for a long time, but right now I’m unable to find it available on any streaming platform in my region. I’ve checked the usual services, but it either doesn’t show up or says it’s unavailable.

I really want to watch the series legally and in good quality. What are my options here? Are there any platforms (global or region-specific) where it’s currently available, or any other legitimate ways to watch it?

Plan with the swan?

Might be a silly question but did the others have a plan with what to do with the swan? They obviously knew about the swan and must’ve known about the button (the flame had that layout of the looking glass so they must’ve had info on the swan). Therefore, they’d know that whoever is down there wouldn’t be pushing the button forever (they knew about the pearl so I’m guessing they saw kelvin/radzinsky/desmond on the screen at some point).

The thought I have against them having any plan is Ben saying to John that he called the button a joke. Also it’s not like they were monitoring the swan from the pearl 24/7 to be ready if someone stopped pushing the button (Desmond didn’t push the button whenever oceanic 815 crashed and the others were freaking out at the barracks). What do y’all think?

Jack's & Kate character

These two are the main characters of the show lol . Sorry not sorry but I did not like neither Jack's or Kate's character.
1) Jack was annoying to say the least and even though he was the main character of the show he really did not put much meaning to the entire series . The way we were told the back story of every character in the series , other characters made more sense and connected to the island that they could've been the main character of the show like Desmond , Daniel and Hurley.The show would've still worked out even without Jack. I used to like him in the starting of the first season but as the series progresses it's weird to see how he just wants everyone to follow his lead and he's really a bad listener and didn't listened to anyone else except him and later to Juliet . I have seen a lot of people rant about Kate and how she did dirty to Jack but wasn't it Jack who hardly respected her opinions and did what HE thought was right?
All in all I'm not saying that I hated him he was a kind person but he acted like he knows what to do but actually did messed up things until we reach to the end of the series .

2)Next Kate , I used to really like her in the first season and she had so much potential to be a baddie and hold a strong female character position but this girl only started gaf abt Jack and Sawyer and just couldn't decide who she wanted to be with . I really wish she was not surrounded by this only and had her own journey in lost . Everytime her past life was shown in the show I really like her in that but as soon as she had to act upon the situations on the island she sucked lmao .

Also Kate and Jack had no chemistry at all and they were polar opposites of each other so except for the part that they are the main characters of the show their pairing made no sense to me . I do not like any ships of Kate btw she deserved to be single and should've had her own journey instead of running around those two men .

Yep so this was my rant because I expected the main characters to be better than this but side characters did better than these two and that really might just be my opinion.

About Watching Getting Lost

I have recently finished Lost. Great show and characters. Loved the journey and will stick with me for the rest of my life. I still have to watch the new man in charge, and then the documentary. That'll be it for new content sadly. I wanted to ask, for fans of the show, how good was the documentary, did it satisfy you guys, im hearing mixed thoughts. Usually documentaries aren't my thing so I dont want my Lost experience ruined.

So I’m rewatching lost for like the 12th time and every time I do it’s just so nostalgic! I really feel they nailed it with how creepy and intriguing it was. Especially in the first few seasons! The music GETS ME

Question about Locke's ability to walk and the MiB

Hey, so in Season 1 we see Locke lose his ability to walk shortly before Boone has his accident. This is explained away as the island required a sacrifice - something that never seems to come back as a narrative device after that.

Some have speculated that the vision given to Locke the night before was manipulation from the MiB in hopes it would kill off one of the candidates. Is it also within the MiB's powers of manipulation to limit Locke's ability to walk?

The sacrifice thing just doesn't seem to jive with me now as much as it did 20 years ago. If the island needed a sacrifice, why is that never seemingly a thing afterwards?

How did MIB know that using the wheel would get him off the island?

So this is one of the many hang-ups I have about the history of the island which I don’t remember being explained by the end of the show. It really bothered me that the MIB said his wheel invention would get him off the island but it wasn’t explained WHY that would happen. I mean obviously he was right in a way, but was it just a lucky guess? Hoping that connecting to the “source” would get him what he wanted?

Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the value of showing and not telling, so I didn’t expect him to look at the camera and say “the source is going to do xyz and take me off the island”, but I feel like I missed some connecting dots somehow.

But also maybe I’m reading too into it. I’m someone who would love at least a half a season on the ancient island people soooooo I enjoy those details.

Spoiler Never being named annoyed me

I didn't like that they never gave the man in black a name.

That felt really silly to me on several levels.

What did Jacob and his mother call him for all those years? "Hey you" ? At some point wouldn't either of them have given him a name?

Why would the LOSTIE's keep referring to him as Locke once he got stuck in Locke's form? Jack literally says he's dishonoring his memory by wearing his meat suit, yet continues to call him Locke.

They could have called him the smoke monster, or ya know... asked him what his real name was.

My all time favorite show, but this always irked me.

Sayid and Shannon

Never really understood this pairing much. I get that he was encouraging for her and she was helpful for him, but does anyone have a deeper understanding of why they turned romantic? I can see more why Shannon would like him. Sayid was probably the first man to actually see her as more than a pretty face, but Sayid was going to LA to find Nadia and still had hope they would make it off the island. If Shannon hadn’t have died would he have just gave up on being with Nadia for her?

What's your favorite music?

Dear LOST community,

it's been a year and a half since I've had the (sadly limited) pleasure of discovering my favorite show for the first time.

I've been waiting patiently since then, to wait for the right time to rewatch the show.

Ever since then, i've wondered about all the reasons we love the show to this degree.

And on one of those times of thinking, a question came upon me, that i wish to ask you all:

What's your favorite music (of the show & in general)?

What i enjoyed about the show, was the importance of the music and the soundtrack and how it reflected the themes and topics in it. (The intro is so short, yet so mesmerizing and REAL)

And i've wondered what kind of music you folks have been attracted to, that gave a similar sense of empowerment as this show has given you.

My favorite piece of music, that gave me an eeriely similar vibe to the show is "th1 evnslower" by Aphex Twin. I highly, highly recommend that you listen to it, because it certainly did take me back to the island lol.

Mile's inconsistent powers

Sorry if thsi has been talked to death already

It always bothered me that in Season 5 (Some Like it Hoth) Miles not only claims that he needs a body to get the memories of the dead, but that that's all that is happening and it has nothing to do with ghosts. He doesn't even beleive Hurly at first when he says he's been talking to dead people for this reason, and idsmisses the idea of ghosts existing entirely if I'm remembering correctly.

But in his introduction in Season 4, Miles has a real interaction with a ghost, talking to it in a way that makes it clear that he beleives he's talking to an actual ghost, and watching it actually lightly interact with the physichal world to show him where some money was hidden in the room.

It's not the worst retcon ever, but it doesn't make any sense and I think that it's bad enough that there's no rationalizing it. He clearly belives that he's talking to a ghost in that scene.

I've seen a couple people point out that his powers were slightly retconned with needing a body to get mempries, but this is a much bigger retcon with big implications for the nature of his powers and how he should view the universe. It's not just a minor thing

Annoyed By Calling Alex Ben's Daughter

Just watched the whole series all the way through for the first time.

Why does the show insist on referring to Alex as Ben's daughter til the end, even after we learn he just brutally kidnapped her? Sure, he didn't abuse her, but it was otherwise nothing but a cruel, pointless act, and the show whitewashed her mother out after the 4th season.

Thoughts after rewatching the pilot

Okay, so I evidently needed to rewatch the show once again based on how frequently I come to this sub lol this will be the third time I watch the show overall. I first started it almost 20 (!) years ago, in 2006. I decided to post some things that struck me about the first two episodes, popular and unpopular I’m sure just for funsies.

\- Kate really owned the hell out of that pilot, for me. And I’m biased, because she actually is my favorite character in the show. But I absolutely love how in the action she is, and gosh, Evangeline Lilly displayed so much range just in these episodes alone. It’s really impressive, especially considering how inexperienced she was at the time.

\- I also love the feeling of seeing how everything starts, and how the writers planted the seeds for the show’s mythology, and mainly for what would be unfolding in the next episodes of that first season. I also love the thriller/mystery aspect of this first season and how much exploring they have to do. It’s fun!

\- Jin and Sawyer were such assholes, omg. I know they get better but it doesn’t make me any less annoyed at them. But they look so good too lol

\- Speaking of looking good, there’s Sayid. I am so excited to rewatch more of him, because I really love him. It does upset me a little because I think they messed his character up a bit around season 6, which is unfortunate. I also know Naveen was a little done with the show around season 3, which makes me think that maybe they should’ve axed him around then while he was still peaking. But then we’d miss him shooting young Ben which for me is one of the greatest moments of the show because it illustrates how messed up he was emotionally and psychologically at that point.

\- Shannon deserved SO MUCH BETTER. And not just in a “in the story” type of way. I really think they dropped the ball with her and didn’t realize how much potential she had. I personally would’ve killed Charlie or Hurley instead of her since they wanted that friction between the two groups on season 2, if that meant she’d be on the show longer. If Sayid stayed on the island and she came back for him, that could be cool too.

\- Some scenes were beautifully shot, in an almost cinematic way, which I really appreciate. Like Locke sitting on the beach before it starts raining, Rose and Claire under the airplane debris while Smokey terrorizes the survivors... super cool to see.

\- Also love that MIB decided to fuck around that first night just because he could LMAO he really was excited about having all the girlies over and said “let me show off a little”, and him killing the pilot? Diabolical.

\- I understand the Marshall was doing his job but also why are you so obsessed with Kate??? like the first thing he does after waking up is asking where she is??? Yeah, he needs to go.

\- Also sad that we didn’t get to see the Michael/Walt relationship flourish as much as it could’ve. I never got really invested in their story, but for some reason it all kinda clicked tonight and I’m excited to track it this time, since they have some great moments on season 1. And for some reason, as awful/shocking as it is, and as much as it made me mad at Michael when it first happened, this time I was like... “yeah, I get why you did what you did on season 2”. I think that if I were as desperate as he was and afraid of losing a loved one (again), I probably would have done the same. And yes, I’d also be consumed by guilt as he did. But that was his son, after all.

\- Although there were definitely some gratuitous shots of the women in underwear, and the clear writing problems that we all know of, I still think that Lost had some pretty three-dimensional female characters with good well-written moments that still hold their own in these days??? Which unfortunately says a lot about our times. In terms of race + ethnicity representation, it gets way muddier, I think the diversity was great but they definitely should’ve had more BIPOCs in the writer’s room.

\- I also love how much air there was in this episode,

and in the show overall (especially the first seasons). They take their time to develop characters, introduce the story. So different than how it is nowadays. They didn’t underline everything all the time. So much better. And so refreshing to see how much they all look... normal? Which is wild to say considering that most of them were incredibly attractive and hot, but like... no fillers, no guy is insanely ripped in a way that one can only be if they take steroids... again, wild to say that since they all fit the beauty standards at the time, but very refreshing.

Anyway, super excited to continue! I’m already looking forward to watching some episodes, making some connections, realizing new stuff... and already dreading watching some of these flashbacks 💀
