looking for a task widget for the desktop

Is there a free or open-source app Does it offer a widget like this on desktop...

or a better one? I tried Apple’s Reminders widget, and I find it not smooth or practical.

I just upgraded to macOS 26.2 and Bartender seems broken for me (v6.3.0). It keeps rearranging my menu bar icons, but it refuses to hide the ones I want hidden. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

I built a keyboard-first HomeKit app because the macOS Home app feels like (is) an iPad port

I spend most of my day on macOS, and the Home app has always felt off.

It’s basically the iPad app dropped onto macOS:

* Not optimized for keyboard use
* Slow to navigate
* Requires constant mouse interaction

That becomes really noticeable when you’re in the middle of something, especially video calls. I’m often in meetings and want to quickly:

* Dim lights
* Close shades
* Toggle a single accessory

Opening a full app just to do that completely breaks focus. So I built [HomeSpot](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/homespot/id6757016819), a **keyboard-focused HomeKit app** where:

* Everything is searchable
* Controls are accessible from Spotlight
* Common actions take just a few keystrokes

Now, during a call, I can hit Spotlight, type a device name, toggle it, and keep talking without switching apps or windows.This feels much more in line with how macOS is meant to work.

Pricing-wise, HomeSpot is a one-time purchase. No subnoscriptions or ongoing fees. I wanted this to feel like a proper native utility, not another service you have to keep paying for.

I built a teleprompter that hides in the MacBook notch - looking for 10 beta testers

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a small Mac app called Notchie. It’s a teleprompter that sits in the notch area of MacBooks - right below the camera.

The idea came from my own frustration: I do a lot of video calls and webinars, and I always looked away from the camera when checking my notes. People could tell I was reading.

So I built this thing that:

Shows scrolling text in the notch (closest spot to the camera)
Lets you pause by hovering, control speed with keyboard
And the part I’m most proud of: it’s completely invisible during screen sharing

I’m looking for about 10 people who’d be willing to test it and give me honest feedback. What works, what doesn’t, what’s missing, etc.

Requirements:

MacBook
macOS 13 or later
Willing to share your thoughts after using it for a few days

If you’re interested, drop a comment or DM me. I’ll send you a free copy - no strings attached.

And if you have any questions about how it works, happy to answer.

Thanks!

System notifications in the notch?

I have been searching for an app that replaces the macOS system notifications (top right corner) into the notch instead but havn’t found such an app yet. So basically, i would like for all system notifications to appear in the notch area via a small drop down window that stays visible for x amount of time.

If anyone know of such an app, please share it or if someone could try and code it. That would be fantastic.

I made a free web app to easily create bulk install mac apps!

Inspired by Ninite for windows**, InstallKit** helps you install all your favorite Mac apps at once using [Homebrew](https://brew.sh/).

Instead of:

1. Searching for each app online
2. Downloading installers one by one
3. Dragging apps to your Applications folder repeatedly

You can:

1. Pick all the apps you want from InstallKit
2. Copy one command
3. Paste it in Terminal and let Homebrew install everything

Perfect for:

* **Setting up a new Mac** — Get all your apps installed quickly
* **Reinstalling macOS** — Restore your setup without hunting for downloads
* **Sharing your setup** — Send friends a link with your recommended apps

Anyone found a better way to search apple messages?

Apple messages search is terrible. I can never find things that I’ve discussed in the past.

I’d love a better search, a way to filter it for specific contacts so i can search through just their histories, and a way to search through the images that were sent.

Gemini suggested I look at iMazing and TouchCopy, but those look like they’re specifically for migrating things off of my phone. I use apple messages heavily on my mac… so I’d like a power user app there. I also looked into Alfred and raycast plugins for this, but didnt find anything that looked powerful enough?

If You're Itching to Spend that Christmas Cash on Some Software, Here's the Second Megalist and some Free Advice

# Paid Mac Apps – Index

If you got some cash or gift cards for Christmas and want to try out some new software, you can try a few of these apps. I've installed and tested them all at some point. The links will take you to a short review with download information. If you find a broken link or an app is no longer viable, let me know and I'll make a quick edit. If you're a developer, drop me a DM and I will be glad to check out your work and possibly feature you on AppAddict if it has some unique features the community would appreciate.

Note \- In almost all cases, I've listed the purchase and/or subnoscription price at the time I reviewed the app. Some have undoubtably changed, so make sure you check the current price before purchasing. None of these are affiliate links, they lead to wherever the developer markets his app. This is my hobby, not my part time job.

Looking for a video speed controller app for Safari

Is there an app that has these features:

1. custom speed
2. keyboard shortcut support like Accelerate app
3. preserve pitch

(Was using Accelerate for a while— but now it is behaving abnormally— notification cutoff to the left of the screen in fullscreen mode, keyboard shortcut stops working)

I’ve just bought Bloom. How can I share feedback?

I bought Bloom after finishing the 7-day free trial because I found it useful!

One piece of feedback I’d like to share is about the scrollable column view. This issue only happens when I use “Reveal in Finder” from other apps, like VS Code. In column view, both Finder and Bloom show the full path from the root. However, Finder allows the column view to scroll horizontally, so I can move from the revealed folder back to its parent folders. In Bloom, when I use “Reveal in Finder” from another app, the column view appears but is not scrollable.

I understand that I can see the full path in the top bar, but it doesn’t feel the same as being able to scroll through the columns like in Finder.

Would it be possible to make Bloom’s column view behave more like Finder in this case?

Thanks :)

Word Processor

Is there a good document app to replace Pages?

I need a document editor but need to see the pages - what is going on which page. Most doc editors these days are endless scroll.

I do not want to buy a whole office bundle or pay exorbitant subnoscription fees - just looking for a one-off purchase of a document app.

Looking for the best RSS reader

Hello everyone! 👋

I’m currently setting up a workflow for a new side project and I need a solid way to track multiple sources and updates via RSS.

I’ve been doing some research and names like NetNewsWire, Reeder, News Explorer, and ReadKit keep coming up. However, I haven’t tried any of them yet. I’m hoping to get some solid recommendations here before I spend time setting everything up and importing feeds, as I want to get it right from the start.

Since this is for a project, I’m looking for:

A native macOS experience (I really value clean, fast, and well-designed UIs).
Preferably a one-time purchase or free (trying to avoid more monthly subs if possible).

What’s the "gold standard" right now?

Looking forward to your suggestions!
