"The only problem is that mathematics is addictive."
Nassim Taleb or whoever was first to notice it.
For about 8 months, my bubble is filled with that kind of idea. This fall, I've read Sabine Hossenfelder's "Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray," which had radically changed my views about modern particle physics and rush for the Theories of Everything (ToE). I finished it in about 6 days, so refreshing it was. Now, I still listen to Taleb's Antifragility. Even though I have found the perversion of the Dr. Semmelweis story there and disliked most of his ways to convey the idea, it was still highly entertaining to listen while going for groceries. Anyway, I second the notion that often the world is way more accurately described phenomenologically, by heuristics, or the models that look ugly in the language of math (at least Greek).
But at the same time, while badmouthing the fantabulous but entirely inapplicable for our Universe, String Theory, or cringing every time @astronomy_guy calls Standard Model the most beautiful theory existing, I realize I go against myself in a way. Because I do have the same feeling for aesthetics that theoretical physicists share. I am the one who could sit till 5 am on some mathematical physics problems. I am the one who would go through massive analytical transformations in Google Colab for the sake of satisfaction, not usefulness. Differential equations are still my favorite, and I am a sucker for analytical work. This is what I have done from the very sixth grade alone on a bench in the back of the class. This is precisely what I am engrossed in every time I start to do research. I am and have been the very same addict I dispraise.
I bet I would make a great string theorist. Even if I lack the mental endurance to go through the dry math, this will be the field where I might finally start working hard due to the unbeatable attachment to symbolic manipulations, even though I do not like compiling in Wolfram. Consider this a coming out. I cannot imagine what would have happened if I had opened Michio Kaku's Quantum Field Theory in May 2020, where the last chapter is devoted to Supersymmetry and String Theory. I might have even begun to ridicule Sabine with the fog inside my brain. And I would have even chosen the Elite Masters Program in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics at LMU & TUM, even though I haven't applied for DAAD.
But I have chosen the scientific path instead of becoming an addict. I think I manage to regulate the dosage of mathematical aesthetics in my brain, and soon I will get more heuristic and scientifically mature myself. To conclude, it seems I'm on the right path, and my body will soon get accustomed to it.

Just in case, SUSY is SuperSymmetry, the direct consequence of string theory, btw. Ironically, this abbreviation is the most applicable thing they came up with.

Your Mass is NOT From the Higgs Boson
The Higgs Boson is awesome but it's NOT responsible for most of your mass! Thanks to audible.com for supporting this episode: http://bit.ly/ZJ5Q6z
The Higgs mechanism is meant to account for the mass of everything, right? Well no, only the fundamental particles…

Some day, yeah
We'll put it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun

When the world is much brighter
