If this had been a New York Times reporter disappearing in Russian controlled territory, it would be headline news—especially if a Chechen “hunter killer” team had taken credit for his death. But with Gonzo—silence. Which was the whole purpose of the post: to raise awareness about his disappearance.

Gonzalo Lira last contacted five days ago. The blogger wrote on his social networks that any action could be taken against him, hinting at detention or murder.

“If you have not heard from me for 12 hours or more, put my name on this list,” the journalist wrote.

The list he provided included Volodymyr Struk (mayor of Kreminna in the Luhansk region, killed by unknown assailants when the city was under the control of Kyiv), Denis Kireev (Ukrainian negotiator with Russia, killed in Kyiv in early March), Yan Taksyur (pro-Russian activist detained by the SBU), Nestor Shufrich (People's Deputy of Ukraine from the Opposition Platform for Life, detained in Kyiv) and other individuals whose views contradicted the Kiev regime.
