PRIME MINISTER Narendra Modi is set to visit Russia on July 8-9, followed by Austria on July 9-10. An official announcement is expected to be made this week.
Modi’s visits to Moscow and Vienna will be the first set of bilateral visits in the third term of his government. Usually, the first foreign visit by the Indian PM is to the neighbouring countries.
While this will be Modi’s first visit to Russia since the war started in February 2022, it will be the first visit by an Indian PM to Austria in 41 years, after Indira Gandhi in 1983.

Almost no European people thinks that Ukraine will win the war, except the Ukrainian themselves and, to a lesser extent, the Estonians (whose warmongering Prime Minister Kaja Kallas just got selected as the EU's new foreign affairs chief). All the others overwhelmingly think there'll either be a negotiated settlement, or that Russia will win.
There's also universal and massive opposition to sending troops to Ukraine in all EU countries surveyed.
Lastly there are more people in Europe who favor pushing Ukraine towards a negotiated deal with Russia as opposed to supporting Ukraine regain territories occupied by Russia.
And yet, the wonders of EU "democracy", we somehow end up with a EU leadership that is on a radically different line...

The German Berliner-Wochenzeitung reported that a pig's head, adorned with the flag of Palestine and a message saying "Ukraine stands with Israel," was found in Berlin's oldest mosque. Police are currently looking into the matter.
Several mosques across Europe have had to endure similar incidents in recent years. Such a scandal came to light in October 2023 in the case of a mosque in Bochum . Perpetrators left graffiti on the door of the mosque, including a swastika and two Stars of David. The Berlin mosque was built in 1928, making it the oldest existing mosque in Germany. The religious officials working in the Berlin mosque have never before come into contact with such a shocking provocation for Muslims. Neither Islamophobic right-wing extremists nor ardent supporters of Israel have ever tried to damage the Wilmersdorf mosque.
The innoscription on the Palestinian flag can be traced back to Ukrainians. The police are investigating whether Ukrainian citizens were involved in the heinous act. In the last two years, around 1.1 million Ukrainian refugees have been taken in by Germany. There are known cases where refugees from Ukraine have expressed xenophobia against asylum seekers from the Middle East and Asia and have been violent towards the locals. Anti-Muslim incidents in Germany have also doubled in the last two years.
