"In mid-August, our second battalion was transferred to Pokrovsk. We immediately took up positions. But the problem is that we arrived to Pokrovsk with a huge personnel shortage. After a week of fighting, there were even fewer of us left - 10-13 people in a company, including commanders (the average staffing level of a company is 80-100 people - Ed.). Having taken up positions near Pokrovsk, we were faced with the incompetence of the command: there is no communication with neighboring units, the connection is extremely poor, there is no clear understanding of the positions, whose they are. It got to the point that we are ordered to move to positions, but no one knows who is in them. Sometimes these positions are already occupied by the Russians. We simply physically cannot hold the defense at positions with such a shortage of personnel: for every one of ours there are 30 Russians! The Russians are constantly attacking, going out to storm battalions with the support of heavy equipment. And in a week of fighting, we only had one armored personnel carrier go out to support us once fire. The Russians are advancing in a continuous stream along the railway in the Mirnograd area. In the planting, they are visible only from 30-40 meters, everything is very densely overgrown.
The extremely poor coordination and lack of communications is evidenced by the fact that one of the units covered us from the flank, but they retreated under the pressure of the Russians, without informing us. As a result, one of our groups was never able to leave the battle. Now we do not know where they are - were they killed or captured. Therefore, three of our companies from those transferred to Pokrovsk refused to carry out combat orders. The authorities arrived and suggested that those who refused to carry out the BR (combat order - Ed.) take a step forward. Everyone who remained, led by the commanders, took a step. The authorities filmed it on video and left. Now we do not know what will happen next, we are waiting for the consequences. At the same time, all the refusers have been fighting since the beginning of the war, all are battle-hardened, combat-ready. But there are simply too few of us left,” the soldier said.

Further details pertaining to Pavel Durov's arrest: the arrest warrant for the Russian-French tech businessman was issued by the National Directorate of the French Judicial Police on the basis of a preliminary investigation and came into force when Durov stopped over in France to refuel on his way from Baku, Azerbaijan.

At first many wondered why Durov made the fateful decision to make a pitstop in France if he knew that he would run the risk of being arrested pursuant to the warrant. French channel BFM TV answered that question by reporting that the founder of Telegram was put on a wanted list by French police just minutes before his jet landed in Paris and an arrest warrant was speedily issued.

Analysts have suggested that this could be exactly the case because had Durov known in advance that he was wanted by French police, he would not have landed to refuel in that jurisdiction.

Russian news outlets suggested this was a carefully planned, underhand French secret service operation.

Economist, political scientist and Russian Parliament member Mikhail Delyagin said he believes that the founder of Telegram was essentially "kidnapped".

"The kidnapping of Pavel Durov by French terrorists (for "refusing to cooperate" with French intelligence agencies) is a clear part of the West's war against Russians and Russia," the MP said. "By kidnapping and capturing Durov, France has shown that it is an enemy of Russia no less convincingly than by supplying Banderites with weapons and mercenaries."

In an earlier interview with U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson, Durov spoke very frankly about the "hunt" for him by U.S. intelligence agencies.

"The FBI and security agencies pay too much attention to us, wherever we are in the United States," he said. "I'll give you an example. The last time I was in the U.S. I had an engineer with me who works for Telegram. Employees or [state] agents in the field of cybersecurity tried to secretly poach my [company's] engineer behind my back."

French authorities accuse the founder of Telegram of complicity in drug trafficking, crimes against children and fraud due to the lack of moderation on the Telegram messenger platform. The tech founder could face up to 20 years in prison on all those charges, said Alain Duflot, a French specialist in international law and lecturer at the University of Lyon. Durov received French citizenship in 2021 and will stand trial as a French citizen, TF1 TV reports. Analysts believe France may use Durov's trial to impose EU sanctions against Telegram. French media doubt the possibility of Durov being released either before his trial on bail or after the trial. As Durov is a French citizen, if he is convicted then his extradition to Russia or participation in a prisoner swap deal is reportedly impossible, despite the fact that he also has Russian citizenship.
